Da-Dut Da-Dooo…
At least, it did for those of us too young to appreciate Peter Sellers. These days there’s always a cartoon somewhere on TV, so today’s cable-ready kids will never understand that peculiar phenomenon of
pantherus interruptus, of being teased by the animated intro to a Pink Panther movie only to be let down by the incomprehensible, live-action, grown-up comedy that followed.
But of course, there were Pink Panther cartoons. 124 of them, made for theatrical release and TV. And they’re all here, in a slick package packed with enough pink for both your disappointed inner child and your Pink Panther-deprived actual child. There’s the Oscar-winning 1964 debut, The Pink Phink, and the Oscar-nominated 1966 short, The Pink Blueprint. There are the only two cartoons where the Pink Panther speaks, both from 1965. There are some of the later made-for-TV cheapo ones that aren’t all that great but hey, why bother with a box set if you don’t include everything?
And best of all, yes: the five animated opening sequences from the Pink Panther movies are here, too. And this time, you can watch them without fear of losing your pink cartoon buzz.
