Manuka for health purposes
By Just A Narwhal on Reviewed in the United States on November 29, 2022
I buy plenty of honey - usually just regular Costco honey for culinary purposes. I buy Manuka Honey as a health food, even for wound care, as i fully believe the claims that are made about it. And this one is MGO263+ And the higher the numbers, the more expensive the honey. MGO stands for Methylgloxal which is found in leptosperin, a naturally occurring chemical found in the nectar of Manuka plants. The higher the MGO number, the higher the antibacterial level. The UMF factor relates to Unique Manuka Factor, and is independently tested, and proportional to the MGO number. THe higher the numbers, the more expensive the honey. Hence why i reserve my Manuka for health purposes. It also tastes a little different to regular honey. More of a sort of herbal taste, and in blended Manuka, sometimes I can discern a sort of floral taste. This one tastes more herbal to me. I fully believe it helps wounds heal faster, and it definitely helps sore throats. I would not spread this on a slice of bread or a cornbread muffin, though I’m sure that I could tell myself “I’m taking my medicine creatively” It comes in an amber coloured glass jar, which appears quite vintage, and the date of manufacture was (according to the label) 2019 so it’s mature. I’m very happy with this Manuka, and i find the price competitive. Would get this one again.
