I’m so glad I did this! I found a cousin that I haven’t spoke to since I was a child. The health part is VERY informative!

Interesting to use, but I didn't see too much of the use case

First, to collect saliva sample and send to the lab is relatively easy to use. However, it requires 30 minutes not drink or eat before collecting the saliva. This requirement made me wait until 2 months to send the saliva sample after purchase. Because every time I want to try this product, I was not quite sure if I ate or drank during the past 30 minutes. But once I'm sure, collect the saliva and send out the mail is straight forward. Second, it takes about 2 weeks for my lab reports to comes out which is slightly longer than I expected. Third, this package includes a one year subscription of the 23andme service. You have to use the service to check your lab report. And after one year, the subscription will automatically charge my credit card. THIS IS BAD!! Thus, I lower the rating. I have to mark on the calender to cancel this service next year. Fourth, the lab report. It tells me my ancestor probably how to come out of africa, but the information is very general and short, and thousands of years ago. There are tons of genetic related terms that I need to read a lot of explanation to understand what it means. When I got my father side's gene group name, I have to search on google to find other interesting information about this gene group. Fifth, about the traits and disease detection. I'm quite disappoint about this part because 1) It tells you a lot of facial traits that I don't need to gene detection to tell. I look at the mirror and can tell most of the traits that are appearence. 2) As to the probability to get disease, I didn't find those claims can lead to practical actions. For example, I have 15% chance to get a gallstone in age 70s, which is aligned with the probability range of general public. I found this information won't be very helpful. Another example is "An estimated 74% of people with genetics like yours develop high blood pressure by their 70s. This result takes into account your birth sex and genetic ancestry." Sixth, about finding unknown relatives. This feature should work. Someone has 2% gene similar to mine (the highest) in their database. I know their last name and it suppose to be my grand father's sister's children. Overall the product seems to perform. But 1) the information was not quite useful; 2) auto enrolled service will charge next year. Thus 3 star as my final score.
