Sleek Portable Power Station
By HokiEE01 on Reviewed in the United States on June 12, 2021
The Rockpals 500W portable power station really delivers and I am impressed with the features and the build quality of this unit. For starters, 505 Wh means this unit can deliver 500 watts of power for 1 hour. That is a lot of juice for a very long time. To get there, it is pretty large and heavy at 12.3 lbs but it is what it is. I think most portable power inverters at this capacity will have similar sizes and weights as it uses lithium ion batteries. The unit came packaged really well in a box and sealed all around with foam. I think the inputs and outputs offer a lot of flexibility for the user and there are multiple ways to charge this. I used it one night on my CPAP to see if it could make it through the night and it went from 100% down to 20% after 8 hours of use with the humidifier. Obviously, without the humidifier it would last longer but I always sleep with the humidifier on so I did not test that. For charging, I used the supplied DC power cable and it took roughly 7 hours to charge it back up. A cool thing about this unit is that you can charge it both with the supplied DC power cable and a USB-C PD cord which I would recommend if you don't have all day to charge this. I could not get it to backup a large refrigerator, the power draw was just to great when the compressor kicked in. If you do overload the 500 watts, it can handle peak up to 750 watts for a short amount of time, but if you do go over it simply cuts off the outlet. You unplug the load, restart the unit and everything just works again. I also like that you can see the power going in and out but wish it had a time function, so you could see how long you have as well as the current loading on the unit. I think some rubber to protect against drops would help as well instead of the plastic. One thing which folks may be overlooking is that this unit has pure sine wave technology which puts out nice clean power which is required for all of today's sensitive electronics. Do not underestimate clean power, it is very important to not damaging your devices. All in all, so far so good with this unit. I know that I can take my CPAP camping now and will still have some juice for some other things, like maybe a fan in the tent. I think what you get for what you pay is a pretty good value here. There are a lot of uses for a device like this and 500 watts is a pretty good amount of power. You can hookup solar to it, I did not try that out, but I can't imagine lugging this 12.3 lb unit around to them charge it up with solar. I also don't know how much solar would move the needle on this as a 70 watt DC charger took 7 hours to charge it....so that is a lot of sun.

Electronics fried
By J. Milani on Reviewed in the United States on March 30, 2023
I used this product a few times to test out and it seemed to perform well. I ran 2 aquariums (without the heaters) overnight with good results. It had, maybe 10 hours of total use and then one night my wife and I came home from dinner and the house smelled like an electrical fire had occurred. The unit was on my workbench in my basement and when I saw burn dust (ash?) on the workbench around the Rockpals unit. This was where the smell was coming from. The unit, of course was inoperable. The screen was hazed over and would not operate. I thought that the battery had combusted but after consulting my brother (who is an electrical engineer) found out that the electronics must have shorted out. Now realize, this unit was NOT charging and nothing was plugged into it. It was simply sitting idle on the shelf. I'm thankful it didn't burn my house down. I contacted Amazon for a refund but it was past the return window. I cannot recommend this unit. I have experience with other similar units and have not had any problems with them.
