Incredible convenience and versatility in a compact product
By Gabriel Fornazier Weber on Reviewed in the United States on May 5, 2024
I thought the whole air fryer thing was just a silly meme for a long time, but consider me a convert. This thing has made baking my large batches of chicken breast significantly easier, and with far less oil, in half the time. I also use it to roast carrots, make toasted sandwiches, and bake pastries! What I've come to recognize is that I hardly ever need the full capacity of my conventional oven, so all that time spent preheating it is a total waste, when this one preheats in a mere 2 minutes. The product itself is very reliable, distributes heat evenly, and is very easy to use. The manual explains pretty much everything I would want to know, and the interface is also very convenient. My only words of warning to folks who haven't used air fryers before is that you really should try to make sure it is plugged on its own dedicated circuit, because it does draw a lot of electricity! If you have multiple things running on the same circuit, you run the risk of tripping the breaker. The other thing is to be mindful of where you place your food when baking in two trays. It comes with two normal trays, a drip tray, and a basket. If using two trays to air fry, say, chicken and carrots at the same time, the one at the top will likely have much more moisture accumulate on it than the one at the bottom. For situations like that, use the basket instead so that the moisture isn't trapped at the top, and airflow is uninterrupted. This is not a fault of the product, it's just how moisture works. In all, fantastic product, and it has absolutely convinced me of the wonders of air fryers/convection ovens.

This is a compact countertop all-purpose oven not a "toaster oven".

Update 12/27/24Sigh.............The replacement oven I received only a month ago has already quit. The display now displays "CALL CUST SRVC ER 3" and will not do anything else. Apparently, from what I can surmise from the little info the csr could give me, it's an overheating issue due to the cooling fan (not the big convection fan) not running after a cook. Ninja has sent me another base oven but I have to pay 23 USD for shipping again.I'm not going to lie.........this is very disappointing. It calls into question the quality of Ninja products as a whole. This is going to be the 3rd oven in less than a year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!While I am very satisfied with customer service I can no longer endorse the product itself. I feel, despite it's many good points, I have to take away 3 stars from my review. The fact is if it wasn't for the customer service this oven would be receiving a 1 star review instead of 2 star review. This was my first Ninja product and it will probably be my last.Update 12/01/2024:I actually cooked a 13.5 lb. turkey in this oven and it turned out pretty much the same as if I did it in my conventional convection oven with one difference. It only took two hrs. at only 325 F and reaching 170 F (directions said to cook to 180 F ?????? Tenting it in foil and carryover let it reach 179 F.) internal at the thigh using the "whole roast" setting and manual temp. setting. It was nicely browned and wasn't burnt at all on the top of the breast where it was closest to the heating elements. The breasts were still very juice and did not dry out at all to my surprise. Usually I have to cook my Thanksgiving turkeys in a huge enameled oval dutch oven I inherited from my grandmother in order for the breasts not to total dry out.Update 11/15/2024:Unfortunately about a week a go the fan in the back of the oven stopped working. I contacted Shark/Ninja about the fan stopping and since I was still within the 1 yr limited warranty they sent me out the oven base (I still had the racks, the cookware and the thermometer from the oven that quit working so Ninja just sent me the oven itself.....which is perfectly acceptable.) free of charge except for shipping which was a little under 25 USD. I got the base and it was brand new NOT a returned oven.....which was very pleasantly surprising. Also I was only on the phone with Ninja for less than 10 min. before they authorized a replacement base oven. I am extremely happy wth Ninja's customer service so I am going to bump up the rating from 4 to 5 stars. Now with that being said hopefully this oven will last more than 5 or 6 months.OG Review:I love this countertop oven and it can do anything and then some of what a full size conventional convection oven can. With it's two tier cooking capabilities it's great for making whole meals (I chose this older model over the dual oven due to smaller size constraints with the dual oven design. It's actually close if not the same overall size but contains two seperate compartments limiting the size of what you can cook.). Now while this is a great general purpose oven it's "air frying" capabilities tend not to be on par with most decent "drawer-type" dedicated air fryers. Don't misunderstand, this oven "air fries" perfectly fine it just needs more time and a little higher temperature due to it having a much higher area to heat. This tends to be the case with even smaller capacity "oven-style" air fryers as well. The "no flip" feature is actually not just an advertising gimmick either. it actually works. I believe it's due to the fact that the convection fan is positioned in back and not to the side as well as it having a heating element around the fan. I also see alot of people complaining about how loud the fan is but the higher speeds of the fan is what allows it to be an "air-fryer". The one thing I don't like about this countertop oven is it's a beast to clean being a stainless steel interior. It's impossible to keep clean primarily due to the fact you really can't use very powerful cleaners because you'll actually damage and degrade the interior if you do. Overall the 4 months I have been using this oven pretty much six days a week (haven't used my conventional oven since I got this) I am pleasantly surprised how much I like this oven. It was definitely worth the 229 USD I got it on sale for and I most likely would have still purchased it at the 329 USD usual price.
