Ladies, Throw Out Your Froo Froo Girly Razors, You Know They're Worthless Anyhow!
By Dark Angel on Reviewed in the United States on January 15, 2023
Schick, the best a (Wo)man can get! Way back when I was in High School, my mom would get me the girly razor brands. I remember cutting myself almost every time, because the blades were dull & it just wasn't constructed well. I'd have to go over and over the same area, and push down to get a clean, close (as much as possible anyhow) shave. However, as many of you know, once you get to college, no matter how many hours you work, you NEVER seem to have enough money. This led me to the Razor section at Meijer (a regional store like Wal-Mart, but they've been around here longer, their prices are better, and they treat their employees SO much better [my brother worked there]) looking at the refill cartridges for the women's razor was SO expensive, so I had 2 choices, a men's bundle-a razor with 4 extra cartridges, for almost HALF the cost of just a few women's cartridges, OR those lovely plastic disposables, that are akin to using a cheese grater on your legs! Thus began my relationship with Schick! Men's razors are made to be used on the most delicate & most visible place, his face, so they are constructed with more elasticity, (I'm not sure how to convey my next point, so I'll put it in terms that I hope will make sense:) where the razor head meets the cartridge, men's razors- and this Schick model is an EXCELLENT example- they've built it to be similar to the shock absorbers on your vehicle, the cartridge is able to move up & down, and tilt, so in addition to the wonderful moisturizing strip (Gillette's is good, but having tried MANY different styles, both Gillette AND Schick, I've found that THIS particular model has the best moisturizing strip & it lasts the longest,) the razor just glides across your skin like skis on fresh new snow! Every year I purchase one of these bundles, & it usually lasts the entire year. If you take care of your blades, they can last a long time! Don't store your razor IN the shower, that leads to rust, and not only will that decrease the life of the blade by making it dull, but you don't want to have to get a tetanus shot and stitches! Every few swipes, tap the side of the razor to try to shake loose any impacted hair, and when you're done, clean it out really good, (I find that a toothpick or q-tip work well,) for the same reason as above, if you leave those wet hairs all crammed in there, you're building a rust farm. I'm always happy with my bundle, but this year, with the sensitive skin & moisturizing components, this is the best razor I've ever had!

Handle good, blades not so much
By Jacob G. on Reviewed in the United States on April 13, 2019
TL;DR it's only worth the cost if you're really in a pinch at the time. Otherwise, get a Fusion ProGlide with a ball head, then buy standard Fusion5 refills. ------------------------- Long version I'm not a particularly hairy person. I don't have very thick hairs, either. I only need to shave once a week, maybe every other week. I only really need to shave my face and neck. This was a godsend at first because it was supremely comfortable to use, especially on my neck. That said, I've gone through as many of these blades in the past two months as I've gone through Fusion5 blades in six. For the first shave, this is more comfortable than even a Fusion ProGlide. Ignore what handle you can use, the blades themselves go across my skin smoother and the moisturizing pads do a better job. The problem is, it's about as effective at shaving as a ProGlide on its *second* use on me, and a ProGlide on its first use isn't as effective as the standard Fusion5 blades on their third use on me. Longevity. Maybe they'll last longer for you, but they don't last for me. If I get a second use out of these, I'm lucky. Third use? Forget about it. I can get an easy three out of a Fusion ProGlide, and I can push a Fusion5 to six if I try hard enough. That latter part is how I managed to go through three of these blades in the time I could go through one Fusion5 blade. On the bright side, the handle is nice, but the sideways-pivoting Gillette handle is better at following skin curves. This does have the benefit of being bigger and fitting better in my big hands because of it, but that's about all that's good about it. Getting the blades onto the handle takes longer than any Fusion blade, and the shock absorber thing is basically a gimmick. If you're shaving slowly and lightly enough for it to make a difference, you're probably using a straight razor. Here are some cost numbers for my scenario: A 12-pack refill for this costs about $21 at the time of writing this. A 12-pack of Fusion5 blades is $34. Fusion5 blades last 3x as long for me. That's $63 vs. $34 over an 18 month period, giving these the benefit of the doubt of lasting two shaves. Is that a lot in the grand scheme of things? No. But God forbid you have to shave more than once a week or need to use them anywhere other than your head. So. Summary time. I'd rather have a Fusion5. I don't care that the refills cost more upfront. They last long enough to justify it. If you absolutely need a razor and/or refills RIGHT NOW, this will work. If you can afford to wait, get something from Gillette.
