Two Words. Holy Crap!!!!!
By Crossy J on Reviewed in the United States on February 28, 2014
I want to first start off with I am not Martha Stewart or one of those OCD clean people where you go to their house and everything is immaculate and placed in the right spot. You know those houses I am talking about. I'm not a slob either. I don't have half eaten pizza crusts laying around the floor, and I'm not sharing my space with the roaches from Joe's apartment.I am a regular working and going to school individual. I don't have much time to clean, but I also don't have much time to make a mess either. I clean when I can which is usually about once a week and vacuum that amount too. Sometimes the vacuuming gets put off for two weeks or so..My old vacuum was a Dirt Devil Quick Power Cyclonic vacuum. It was purchased from Walmart almost 4 years ago. The thing worked for the most part, I don't think it cleaned very well near the end and I forgot to clean out the canister and it got clogged so then it just recently started not to suck which is why I purchased a new one.I had some time off of work to break this baby out. It was just purchased last week and delivered on Tuesday. I just now turned it on LOL. Probably should have done that before to make sure it worked!! But it did.I admit I am blond and have blond moments so I wasn't paying any attention when I was pulling it out today what the settings were on. I plugged the baby in and started to vacuum my hallway. I have cats. 3 to be precise. None of them are extremely long haired and they shed like cats do.. Too freaking much...I am one of those people who used that carpet sprinkle stuff to make your carpets smell nice and fresh. I used that stuff until I cleaned my carpets for the first time this last winter (I have lived in this apartment for about 2 years or so my boyfriend lived here for four.. but you know guys.. they don't really care how it looks as long as it can be walked on.. well most are like that) anyway, once I cleaned the carpets this last winter and noticed how much of the sprinkle stuff wasn't getting up I stopped using it.I purchased this one because of the reviews on it. I googled the best vacuum for people with pets and this was the one that was in my price range and had decent reviews. It was this or Dyson.. and I don't feel like spending almost 500 dollars for a vacuum right now. I liked that it had the little power tool thing with the doo hickey spinner things and the extension wand with the corner tool thing. I also liked the duel sucking technology that to me meant that it was going to clean better. I don't quite understand the cone of death thing in the middle of the canister but I only assume that helps with the sucking. So I started cleaning my hallway and about 3/4ths the way done I noticed a huge massive chunk of cat hair in the canister. This hair ball was so big it could have easily been a kitten or bunny! I finished cleaning the hall and didn't notice too much debris in the vacuum, only hair. I emptied the canister and went to my cat room to start on that. Like I said I have cats, these three love to try and spread cat litter all over the floor so I put one of those little cheapo 5 dollar blankets on the floor (The ones you get for Christmas, you know the ones I'm talking about. The ones that don't cover you most of the time. I believe they are flannel or something.) and put my litter boxes on top of that. It works for the most part with keeping the litter off of the carpet but its not perfect and there is still some that gets spread.I don't know how to clean the thing other than picking the entire thing up, rolling it up and dumping it outside in the grass or the garbage can. I live in Illinois and it's winter right now so I am not going to be going outside more than I have to. I decided to try the power hand tool with the spinner doo hikey on that to see if it would work in cleaning the litter. Well the thing startled me when I first turned my vacuum on because the spinner thing actually spun! I was like woah! Surprised yes, but most of those things kind of spin but not really but this one was a really going!!!The thing worked like a charm! I was amazed of how fast and easy it was in cleaning up the cat litter off of the blanket. So I decided that I was going to try the whole vacuum on the carpet to remove the rest of the litter and continue my cleaning. So I put the hose back in its place and the little power handle thing as well and fired her up. I started going over the areas where I could see the cat litter. It wasn't doing much. I could hear some of the litter being sucked up but it clean it much.Being a woman I turned the vacuum off and sat there staring at it wondering what's going on. (Okay, not everyone does that but I am sure a lot of you are sitting there nodding your head because you know exactly what I am talking about-- cause you know staring at it wondering why it's not working is totally going to fix it!!) I noticed that the little setting thing was set on high carpet. (Remember I said I wasn't paying attention to the settings before I started it up?) I don't have high carpets! LOL So I turned that little setting thing down and started her back up. That is where the "holy crap" comes in. The thing picked up I swear every last piece of cat litter that I went over on my floor! If I went in there right now where I went over I don't think I would find even a piece of carpet fuzz that comes out sometimes it was that good! So I thought "hey if it removed that large chunk of cat hair when it was on high in my hallway, I wonder what it would do on low?" I took it back up and down the hallway to see how it would clean.I have to say I will never ever ever use that carpet sprinkly stuff again. Even after washing my carpets over the winter there was still that stuff all over my brand new vacuum. It was coated on the inside of the canister. I had so much debris that came out of the hallway that didn't at first when my dumb butt had the setting wrong. My carpets have never looked cleaner after they were vacuumed. They were amazing when I washed them but this time they were spectacular!! I sat on them for a little bit just staring at my hall cause it was just that clean!I tried the little power tool thing on a futon lounger I have and it worked wonderfully, though the little non powered furniture one kind of didn't do squat but I didn't buy it for that. The only thing I am meh about with this is the hose. It is kind of awkward to use. It does come out pretty long but it is difficult to pull it out and stretch across the furniture. Other than that, this thing rocks!!!This vacuum is the best thing I have purchased thus far in the form of cleaning equipment. Cat hair? No problem! Cat litter? No problem! I have a friend that has an Alaskan Malamute and I am deciding if I want to bring it over with me to her house sometime and test it on that. I would be spending an hour cleaning out the brushes though lol so I might just recommend her to get it next time she needs one.I give this a 5 out of 5 because it gets the job done and I didn't have to pay 500 dollars for a Dyson!

Hoover vs Dyson
By Carey on Reviewed in the United States on January 17, 2016
This was offered as a Deal of the Day for $75 and it's recommended on Consumer Reports. I have 4 dogs, 2 kids, and a bird in my home. I've been a die hard Dyson fan for over a decade but thought I'd try this vacuum out at such a great price. Vacuum shipped quick and was very easy to assemble (maybe 5 minutes and you need a Phillips screwdriver for 1 screw). I hadn't vacuumed my downstairs in a day or so. I took the Hoover over it first. Very thoroughly. Then I took the Dyson (an OLD yellow DC07 that I bought refurbished about 6 years ago) over the same area. As you can see in the pictures, the Hoover did a decent job...but still left LOTS of dirt and hair. (Pictures show the Hoover dustbin after vacuuming, then the Dyson dustbin going over the same area the Hoover just had-- the Dyson was completely empty prior to this test) The Hoover also felt much more cheaply made than the Dyson. The Dyson just feels substantial, even though they weigh about the same. Ultimately, I'm sending the Hoover back.HOOVER PROS:*retractable cord (though I will say that at first the retractable thing didn't want to retract. I had to fiddle with it quite a bit to get it to retract the cord)*cost*easy to switch from vacuum to tool use*pet wand accessory tool was great at picking up dog hair*fold down handle*adjustable carpet height selectorDYSON PROS:*superior suction and cleaning*more sturdy/heavy duty*long lasting (my purple dyson is 12 years old and still going strong; my yellow Dyson is 6 years old and was purchased refurbished and works as well as day 1)*easy switch from vacuum to hand toolsUltimately, if you don't have a lot of animals or dirt where you live, the Hoover should be fine for you. If, however, you have a need for a strong, durable vacuum that will last for a very, very long time, go with the Dyson.
