Neato XV-12 All Floor Robotic Vacuum

Have owned this since Christmas (5 months). Yes, bought my wife a vacuum for Christmas... And she loves it! We had the other, more well known, more expensive brand before. That one barely picked up anything. I'll call that the GOOFBA for comparisons below. Now I have this and it really picks up an amazing amount of dust/dirt/debris from the floor! Note: I have not updated the firmware on mine. I have heard some of these issues may be rectified with that. But the 'cons' are so small that I haven't been prompted to do it yet... :) Pros: * Powerful * 95% (or more) of the time it doesn't bang into anything with the LIDAR 'vision' it has. It will occasionally hit the door or push an empty dog bowl because the bowl is too low to be 'seen' and to light to trigger the bump sensor. * Easy to use and the wife loves that she has this working in the kitchen while she is working on something else. Cons: * Can get stuck under ottomans, in chair legs, etc. If it gets stuck it'll turn off the suction and try for a while to roll out of there. Then it'll stop and just do a quiet beep until you come free it. * If you pick it up and move it after getting stuck under something it will remember that it didn't clean under whatever it got stuck on and will go back often times and get stuck again... That's the only complaint my wife had. * Sometimes it cannot find it's way back to its base. Could be our setup, but that's no big issue. Just pick it up and put it on charge. You will have to empty the canister anyway so it's not like you are making an extra trip. Comparison: * It takes a moment at the start of the clean cycle to spin up the vacuum. And it's a serious vacuum, so it makes real vacuum noises. The GOOFBA was much quieter on the vacuum, but it didn't pick up much of anything. * The NEATO doesn't make jarring banging noises whereas the GOOFBA had no 'vision' and so it bounced around the room into everything to find out where it was, very annoying. * The Neato is easy to empty the vacuum, as was the GOOFBA. * Both the Neato and the GOOFBA like to chew on computer cables. I don't remember how bad GOOFBA did it, but I remember we only made that mistake once with that brand. With the Neato, it will wrap up around the plastic brush thing and then stop. It will beep for us to help unwind it. Other: * I don't clean the filter after every run. I have to empty the vacuum hold after each run because it picks up so much stuff, but the white filter at the end stays uncleaned. * Every now and again (once a month?) I will take the white filter part to the sink, run water on it in the opposite direction and across to clean it. Then set it outside in the sun to dry. Looks new and works great. * It works best in the bedrooms. In the living room the ottoman is where it will get stuck. In the kitchen if we leave the chairs down, it will get stuck in the dining room chairs but not the barstools. I guess the chairlegs are just the right size to catch a robot... :) * We use this on carpet, area rugs and wood floors. Works great on all three and to be honest, works better on the wood floor than the plug-in-vacuum! The plug in has very aggressive brushes and on the slick wood floor will shoot a cheerio 15 feet. The Neato has a very aggressive vacuum and will trap the cheerio.
