Remote camping and Emergencies
By Rick on Reviewed in the United States on April 13, 2014
These lights are lightweight because they don't have batteries. They are very good, 3w LED lights that work well with the Goal Zero products, but also with any DC power port that takes cigarette lighter style plugs. In prep for the summer, I've been testing these with 2 different solar generators. Being able to chain 8 of them, plus having 9' cords, you can light up a room very easily with just 3. This translates to lighting a camp site. We have a 10x16 tent. With one chain of these, we could easily light all the way around the tent, and with another string, most any other camp site area. Each turns on independently as long as the power source is active. With the hook, they will stay put where you hang them, and the hook is adjustable along the length of the cord. At 3w each, 8 = 24w, running on a Yeti 400 for 16 hours. Granted, you don't routinely need them that long, nor do you want to run a battery power pack that low. But being able to run for 8 hours on the Yeti 400 is way more than would likely be needed in camp. In a power outage, again probably won't be needed that long, but 1 could be left on for kids as a night light. Assuming you might have the string on for 4 hours, the one on over night, you still have plenty of storage. Their size and shape make them a bit more difficult to pack/transport. I've tried a couple things, but an empty egg carton allows you to put them in upside-down. While exposing the light, it will all go in a bin to protect them along with other solar/camping/power-backup items. Since the idea is knowing I'm not backpacking in, I'm not worried about that. My experience so far is great. They have not been out in the field yet. So we'll see at that point. 5-star now. If there are problems, I'll update.

Plenty of light

The light is a great design and has a high output. I would have rated it 5 stars but it is made in China, not the US as advertised on Amazon.
