Great for short or urban hikes
By Chris on Reviewed in the United States on June 11, 2011
I've owned Mountainsmith products from the earliest days of their original lumbar daypack. Have two of the old ones and one of the newer style (better load straps). But the daypacks are more than I wanted to haul for shorter hikes or hikes not in the backcountry. I've got those packs loaded with gear in each vehicle. They have cooking and basic survival gear along with spare clothing, etc. (I do SAR). But when I go for a bike ride or a walk closer to home, I wanted something I could toss wallet, keys, glasses, camera, binoculars, etc. in and this is the perfect size. It has the added benefit of providing wonderful lower back support. The water holders are designed for .5 litre bottles best I can tell and not bigger bottles. It's really a brilliant design.

Shoulder strap for sissies
By Crowe on Reviewed in the United States on March 7, 2012
I was looking for day to day 'man-purse' that looked mountain-esk. This seemed to be the right size and style... But its got the wussiest strap of any mountain smith bag I have ever seen (short and thin) and the lumbar straps are enormous. The lumbar straps are not detachable and will forever be in the way. If you really like fanny packs this will work but I do not. Actually I really hate fanny packs. In short -- unless you like fanny packs, it sucks.
