Honest Review - from a mom who used tampons, cups and discs
By Brandi Riggs on Reviewed in the United States on January 23, 2021
I’ve been meaning to review this product since the very first time I used them. I kept forgetting but I realized I needed to make this review a priority- especially to give input for those of you who are on the fence. Let me start - I have a 15yo and a 4yo. I had a tubal ligation done after my last child was born. My periods have been insane since then. You know the bleeding you have after giving birth - honestly that’s how my periods have been ever since. Prior to having my last child (I was 30 when I had her), my periods had always been light and short. I was super lucky. I had my daughter and my periods have been so heavy ever since. When I say I soak through a super plus tampon in an hour or two on my heaviest days, I mean it. I was not only going through so many tampons, but I was having to wear super absorbent diapers.. I mean pads to catch what leaked because usually 4 out of 7 days that I menstruate, it’s heavy. Not just blood but clots. It’s horrible. Honestly, I consider getting an IUD not to prevent pregnancy, but possibly to lighten my periods because it’s ridiculous. Anyways, about two years ago I started seeing people recommend menstrual cups. I decided to see what the hype was about. They definitely took some trail and error - and even a trip to the urgent care to have one removed that somehow slid sideways and suctioned sideways that made it impossible for me to remove. But even after that, I still used them regularly because they did make it possible to go more than an hour or two without stressing about leaking. On my heaviest days, I was probably going about 4/5hours without having to remove the cup. I was actually happy with that. But even after over a year of using them, sometimes I still had issues with getting the placement correct. I do have a tilted cervix if that makes a difference. Anyways, several months ago I started seeing info regarding these “menstrual discs” that was of course marketed safe and mess free to use during sex. Well I’m not going to lie, that wasn’t the part that intrigued me. The part that made me interested was the fact that it was a flat disc and if it allowed a penis to enter your vagina without issues, I thought maybe I could finally stop using pads and panty liners as back up and use a light tampon instead. There were two brands at the time this brand and another. I went with this brand because it was cheaper and had two more discs included. In my mind I was thinking about how I’m usually menstruating for 7 days and these say they can work up to 12 hours - so I am thinking these would get me through my heaviest days at least, even if I’m having to remove way before 12 hours. So I ordered them and they arrived. When I first opened one, I did get a little shocked by the size. I mean I’ve had two kids but the size was intimidating. However, they’re flexible and when you squeeze it together to insert, it’s not bad at all. There is a time here and there that it may hurt just a tiny bit inserting because the length when squeezed together is quite long but once it’s in, it is so easy to position in place. You just take your finger and push the lip that’s closest to the front of your vagina until it kind of hooks behind your pelvic bone. Reading the instructions didn’t make sense until I actually inserted it and felt my pelvic bone and realized what they were talking about. But it slides right behind there and once it’s there I feel absolutely nothing. It is amazing. And let me say that even on my heaviest day, I’m probably able to keep it in for about 8-10 hours without leaking. I don’t even use a backup tampon like I originally bought these for because it’s not even needed. These have completely changed my life. I am such an active person and am always doing outdoor things, so to be able to go swimming or hiking etc and not have to stress or cancel because of my period is awesome and game changing. I have yet to have sex with one but honestly, I don’t think I would unless I just put a new one in. The only issue I have occasionally is if I have one in and I am using the bathroom and push down, once in a while it break the seal and everything inside comes pouring out. So I usually just remove it before going and insert a new one when finished. When you remove it, all you have to do is put your finger on the lip and push down like your using the bathroom and pull it forward and it comes right out. I usually pull mine out with my right hand while holding a wad of toilet paper in my left hand, dump the contents into the toilet once I have it out and then slowly place it on the toilet paper, wrap it and toss in the trash. I know this is a lot of TMI but I wanted to be honest and share my experience. I will never use a tampon again. I will never use a cup again unless I happen to run out of these and am waiting for an order to come in. And honestly I never have to wear pads as back up either. If you’re debating - just do it. You won’t regret it. I also included photos of how much liquid these discs can hold compared to a cup. It’s triple the amount. That means if your cup is only getting you through 4 hours, this should get you through 12. Again, they seriously changed my life by allowing me that bit of freedom during the week I’m on my period every month that I never could have before.

About these... definitely a love/hate relationship
By Amy on Reviewed in the United States on January 26, 2022
Soooo... I bought these as a 43 year old woman who’s praying to go through menopause any day. (Hey... my sister and mom were both done by my age... it could happen! 🤞🏻) I didn’t buy these to try to get pregnant, and I didn’t buy these to try to have sex while I’m menstruating. I strictly bought these to make my period bearable. The older I get, the heavier it gets. 😣 The pros: I read you should practice before you actually NEED them. Here’s the deal... I ignore my cycle until it creeps up and bites me in the @ss unexpectedly. That’s just how I like it. But, it’s coming more frequent and angrier than ever before. All that to say, I hope every time is my last, so I didn’t ever practice with these guys because I’m in a state of denial that this shenanigans is still happening to me. (My kids are 18,19, & 19... I literally have no use for Aunt Flo anymore. I’m OVER it. These kids are... plenty to deal with.) Annnnyway... I didn’t practice, and yet I managed to get it placed properly the first go around (and every time after that) with no issues whatsoever. None. And, I’m told I’m “tilted”... whatever that means. Sure, the first time I was definitely checking on the hour every hour that nothing was going awry, and sure enough, nothing went awry. Hallelujah! That would have been a mess. All that to say, insertion for me was easy peasy, and it undoubtedly worked like a charm. After the initial paranoia that there’s no way I could have gotten it right on my first try, there was truly no worries. It collected all the things for hours on end, and there were no leaks. Yeehaw! Those first 10 hours were bliss. 10 hours and 1 minute after insertion, all the things went to h*ll. The cons: I’m not sure how you pull something down and out and still manage to keep it level. ??? Honestly, I’m not laying on the bed or the bathroom floor for this. I’m just not that person. It’s coming out over the toilet, or I’m not interested. Whatever. I digress. I guess what I’m trying to get at without being too terribly descriptive is that removing it is no freaking fun. Somehow, I feel like it is still suctioned to something up in there, and, as mentioned, pulling it out level is not realistic. Thus, the INSANE mess. 👀 I was NOT prepared the first time. Like... at ALL. I kinda just sat there and looked at my hand and looked at this device and thought, “what the heck do I do now???” The subsequent times I was more prepared, but it was no less messy. Geez Louise. The other con that I didn’t read about when I overthought and overanalyzed this $10 purchase for 8 days straight was that my lady business is like... raw from inserting and removing this thing for a couple days. Yes, it lasts for hours, so the insertion/removal isn’t happening all that often, but I guess my biz isn’t used to this fairly large plastic ring OR my finger(s) being shoved up there even twice in 24 hours. There’s a general level of discomfort on the exterior side of things after just 2-3 days use. I don’t know. Maybe I’m doing something wrong. The down-low: yep... it works as advertised and is incredibly easy to get in place. They just don’t advertise much about the removal blood bath, nor do they mention that you could get sore/raw from all the activity down there. Lol. (And, I actually do have a husband with a fairly active sex life. Maybe it’s muscle memory? I don’t know.) What I’m trying to say is that it will do as advertised, but there’s a couple things that aren’t advertised. Take that for what it’s worth. If you don’t want to take a shower each and every time you need to change this thing, and if you’re not keen on true crime scenes on your hands, this might not be for you. 🤷🏼♀️ My plan: because it works as advertised, I def plan to use these when I’m traveling long distances and convenience store bathrooms aren’t my jam. I would also use this at night or... when I’m on a boat for a long summer day?? (I don’t know... think about when changing a tampon would be incredibly inconvenient for several hours.) Otherwise, though, I guess I won’t be cancelling that Amazon subscription to my economy size box of tampons any time soon. To all the ladies praying for menopause as your period laughs in your face, I hope this helps! I’d probably say to give it a whirl... you never know. I’ve read you can perfect the removal process after a few cycles, so I’m gonna keep trying. Maybe I’ll report back in a couple months. Maybe. Or maybe my prayers will be answered, and I’ll be done, done, DONE in a couple months! Only time will tell!
