Ease of Use, effectiveness, and price

Product arrived 4 days earlier than it was suppose to and OMG did it work wonders for my purse, plus my toilet which took a lot of strength using a plunger on several occasions to try and unclog it. My husband tried with the plunger as well and it did nothing to unclog my mess. I refused to call the plumber because I did not want to spend that much money so I tried another DIY concoction with baking soda, vinegar and hot water needless to say it did nothing to unclog the toilet either. I was determined to hold on to my money so I went to work searching the internet of other ways to unclog the toilet and came across 'closet auger' so of course I googled it and ended up on my favorite online store "Amazon" to see if it was available for purchase there and also to see the reviews in order to purchase the best of the lot. Man, oh man, was I happy with my decision to buy this one!!! It cleared the toilet on my first attempt in less than 3 minutes, after having to share my daughters toilet for 2 week :-(. I felt like I had won a jackpot when the toilet flush freely on my first try!!! It did not take any extra effort or strength to use this tool which makes it even more awesome !!! I don't have to depend on anyone to unclog any of the three toilets in my home ever again!! (even though they don't clog frequently, at least I am well prepared for when they do). This product will always be in my home from now on. The fact that it has a lifetime warranty for some things makes it more reassuring in purchasing it. I promise you if or when this one goes bad I will be replacing it with this very same product. I was tempted to buy the 6 foot one because I feared the 3 foot wouldn't do the job, but after reviewing the 6 foot one and saw that it needed some strength and effort to use it, I reverted to the 3 foot which was perfect. I saw in I think 2 or 3 reviews that the porcelain was scratched. My advice is in order not to scratch the porcelain make sure you watch the video on how to use the closet auger before you attempt to use it . That is what I did and not even the tiniest of a scratch occurred.

OK, but wouldn't purchase again
By DIYer on Reviewed in the United States on December 27, 2013
OK, here's the deal on this thing...first off, to be fair, it does clear most toilet clogs but there are a few major cons that you need to be aware of before purchase that would have steered me clear: 1) The auger is actually a 3 ft metal spring that is very unwieldy and difficult to maneuver as its over 6 ft long when fully extended including the handle...you will not be able to insert it into the toilet if you have a very small space like a small guest bathroom...the auger doesn't roll up but rather gets pulled back into the metal tubing housing as you withdraw it from the drain or toilet...you need about 7 ft of clearance in order to get the auger into the toilet; 2) It is a mess to work with...this is the deal breaker for me and I'm used to getting my hands dirty but this thing is a pain and here's why: the auger is a tightly wound metal coil spring with a bulb head at the end...clogged toilets contain all sorts of nasty debris and organic material that you don't want to come in contact with, however as the auger is slowly turned clockwise into the toilet drain, it will come into contact with all the above mentioned items (as it is designed to do)...in most cases as you begin to retract the auger from the toilet, it will also bring back remnants of whatever was clogging the toilet...paper, foreign objects, hygiene products and yes, solid human waste. These dingle berries and other goodies are lodged into the bulb head and much of the length of the auger and as you retract it into the metal housing, only the bulb will be exposed once fully retracted...the bulb can be cleaned in the toilet with some effort, but its the remaining 3 ft of retracted auger that begins leaking all over your bathroom that is the biggest pain. I typically have to move the auger to the bathtub once retracted and then extend the auger the full 3 ft (6+ft with the handle) in order to clean the rest of the auger length which is also not easy as all the debris is compacted into the spring coils and requires high pressure water hose to fully remove. Try cleaning a 7ft rod in your bathtub half of which is a metal coil that squirms all over place and you get the idea. There is a plastic holder that keep the auger in place when not in use but I have found it to be very difficult to attach and detach the auger. Conclusion: Does the job if you are prepared to get dirty...use rubber gloves and cover the bathroom floor with plastic or other covering...you will clear the toilet and save yourself a big plumber's bill, BUT you will have a major clean up operation to contend with.

This works well. Much better than a plunger, quick and easy to use. Very happy with this purchase

This is a some augur tool to help clear clogs. It appears to be designed for toilets and other larger drains. I recently bought this (Dec. 2, 2023) to clear a toilet clog. After trying the usual remedies (plungers) and various "liquid plumber" like substances I thought I'd give it try before call for a professional plumber. 1. The device works as advertise and comes as it appears. It is sturdy. 2. I am not a super handy DIY so I went on and found a lot of videos and helpful guidance. The instructions on the cardboard attachment is basic - accurate but very basic. 3. BE VERY CAREFUL about scraping the metal augur against the visible porcelain. I used a trick of duct taping around the plastic elbow to help cushon it and keeping the device in line. with the path. Despite all of these efforts, on the way out the bulbous augur end did scrape a bit against the visible part and so now there are several fine grey metallic scraps - not horrible and I can live with it. 4. If you are very fastidious - try to draw the bulb tip full inside before retreating the device out. I did it single handed but if you are smaller and shorter the full 3 foot extension requires a bit of a stretch. The device worked! Cleared the gunky clog and I easily saved the cost of a plumber visit.
Sturdy But Fairly Hard to Use

I bought this to clean out a garage floor drain that had become clogged. For that purpose, it worked well. However, I have since tried to use it twice on toilets as it’s intended. It worked once, but took me quite a while to maneuver it into the pipe to the point it could clear the clog. The second time, I just couldn’t get it to go far enough into the pipe and I had to use a plunger to clear the clog. I’m not sure what would make it easier to use. Having said that, it was a good price and probably worth the amount paid for it to work some of the time but not all of the time. It is easy to grip and turn, so it is useful when it is able to reach the clog.
Like a charm

Works as described. Perfect for the job. Nothing will stop this tool from completing its mission. It will scrape the toilet porcelain where it enters so when using it again I'll pad where it will be contacting the porcelain. Very satisfied
Works as promised

No More Clogged Toilet

Bought this RIDGID 59787 Model K-3 Toilet Auge after unsuccessfully trying Green Gobbler Clog Dissolver to unclog the toilet, which did nothing to alleviate my toilet woes. The snake was my last option before actually calling a qualified plumber and paying the big bucks. I was concerned that the 3' snake would not be long enough and I seriously considered the longer, 6' I believe, version. Reading up on it, most toilet clogs happen within the first 3 feet, so I bought the three-footer. Sure enough, it turns out that the sixer wasn't necessary. It took a couple of tries but this snake is the real deal and my toilet is no longer clogged. It even seems that the toilet flushes even better than before, more quickly and powerfully. I am not exactly sure what the cause of the clog was, it may have just been TP that needed to be pushed out. There was nothing stuck on the bulb portion when I pulled the snake out. It was totally clean. In any event, I am so happy that I found this, and I am sure it will pay itself off over time, in fact, I think it already has. Would buy again!
