Anybody? Nobody? Is this thing on? Drat. Whether I take my Zune to the airport or the gym, on the subway or to the mall, I can always count on one thing: I’ll be the only Zune owner for miles around. Now I know how the Last Unicorn felt.

I know there’s more to the Zune than those “Welcome To The Social” gimmi- er, features. This newer model Zune lets me wirelessly sync it all. The included Home A/V Pack allows me to easily watch those videos on a TV or listen to the music on a stereo system, if I so desire. While I’m tearing around the empty, silent streets in my appropriated Maserati, I’d be pumping the killer jams with the Zune Car Pack. And since this scenario assumes that all of the RIAA and MPAA lawyers have also died, well, it’d be a free-media bonanza.

But that sounds so lonely. I don’t want to be an isolated, friendless creature, seeking solace in the cold companionship of the Ting Tings and A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila. I want to belong. I want to connect. I want The Social. Please, sir, take pity on such a humble and wretched creature as I. Buy a Zune. Buy three. Give them to friends, or family, or panhandlers. Whatever it takes to get The Social out into the streets.

Then maybe, just maybe, someday, somewhere, I’ll finally meet another Zune owner. Our wireless capabilities will sniff at each other tentatively, like puppies. We’ll exchange MP3s with limited replay rights. And I’ll finally be able to make fun of their lousy musical taste.
