Here it comes. It’s stalking down the hallway in bipedal attack mode on its clickety-clackety feet, whipping its tail and whirring menacingly as it approaches. You hold your breath and try not to move. You have one chance to make this work.

Now it’s stopped. It’s standing just outside the door to the cedar closet in which you’re hiding. Just a little closer, you think—NOW.

You kick the door open, and it slams into the mini Roboreptile, which goes bouncing down the steps, spilling its AA batteries across the floor. You’re safe!

And then you hear a deeper whirr from behind you. You turn around to find yourself staring directly into the infra-red vision sensors of a larger Roboreptile. Its sonic sensors, calibrated to detect sharp, loud sounds, must have picked up the noise of the baby one clattering down the stairs. This one must be the momma.

You’re doomed.
