There was two feet of snow outside. Most roads were closed, and the ones that weren’t were covered in ice and slush. What else could we do?

As I ripped our World of Warcraft Banner of the Horde down from the wall that night, I never once thought about its significance. I wasn’t thinking about how your mother and I met as Alliance characters in WoW when we were young, and then at BlizzCon in real life years after that. I didn’t even remember how, when we got engaged, we decided to start our new lives together with a fresh start as members of the Horde. The only thing on my mind was grabbing something to wrap you in until the paramedics were able to get to us.

But as three of us sat there together in the silence and calm that followed your birth, it all came rushing back to me. It was then that I realized that the banner was more than some silly decorative game prop. Now more than ever, it had truly become the symbol of our family.

And that’s why we named you Blarg Throatkicker Henderson.
