It was about six am when Tom woke and looked down the canyon. The cold was just hanging there like the seven men he had been with when they robbed that bank. He was the first out the door, no one else had followed. He hid himself in some tumbleweeds, and when he tried to sneak away that night, he looked back and saw it, burned in his memory as perfectly as if he had used a VuPoint DC-MP5341-VP digital camera.

He saw the hoods dropping over their faces, saw it with a deep 5.0 megapixel clarity. He noticed the determined line across the sheriff’s mouth, he could see it now, as smooth as a 3.0 megapixel optical zoom and a 4.0 megapixel digital zoom. He heard the little click when the wood gave way and all seven men dropped, saved in his mind like an ASF movie even now as he replayed it, using all 9MB of his memory and his expandable SD slot (card not included but he won it in a poker game when he was nine). And now here he was, looking down the canyon at the start immediate beauty and thinking, Lord above, where is there to run? Because he saw the seven horses coming his way and he knew in an instant, as clear as a built-in flash, that those men were coming for him.
