Sorry if we seem a little down. We buried our old cordless phone today. Obviously, we know that nothing lasts forever. But somewhere deep down, we just kinda thought it would always be there, sounding its chirpy little ring the same way it had since Al Gore was a serious presidential candidate. We tried to ignore the signs of age: the shaky signal, the non-functioning # key, the bits of grey muck wedged in its corners. We just couldn’t face the end. Now here it is, and we’re not handling it well.

It seems wrong to move on to some other phone, almost sacrilegious somehow. But life must be lived. Calls must be answered, messages must be taken, unwanted callers must be screened.
