“Well, my husband and I received this as a wedding gift from a cousin in, oh, 2003, I think. We never really liked this particular cousin, though. We only invited her as a favor to my mother-in-law. So, after we unwrapped it, we stored it away in the attic for some time. When we saw the Roadshow was coming in to town, we thought it might be a lark to bring it in and, well, try our luck!”

“I know they were somewhat popular some time ago, but I really couldn’t tell you much else.”
“They were actually very popular years ago before many began making the switch from landlines to cell phones and smart phones. Now, what you have here is the Uniden 5.8GHz Dual Handset Digital Cordless Phone with Answering System.”
“My stars, that sounds fancy.”
“Actually, it is, in its own fashion. While there were many different types of cordless phones in circulation in 2003, this particular system had many unique features that made it stand out from the others. For instance, if you look here, you’ll see that this unit has a DirectLink mode that lets you use the phones as walkie-talkies without the base unit or even an old fashioned telephone connection.”
“Really? I’d never noticed.”
“Also, take a look at this. It also has a Room/Baby monitor mode. You could actually leave one handset or the base in one room, then use the other handset as a remote speaker of sorts, so that you can listen to that rooms goings on anywhere in the house.
