It’s the end of an era

I shouldn’t complain. I had a good run. And I was there from the beginning! I’ve been mugging for the Internet since 2005, y’all. For a meme, that’s old.

Meanwhile, every year my competition gets younger and younger. They don’t know what it was like for us pioneers! We blazed the way! But do you think we get respect? As if.

And now I’m… well, let’s just say in my late early to early middle 20s. I’m no spring chicken anymore. I thought maybe I could hang with the new generation for a couple more years, ‘cause I’ve still got the charisma, right?

But not in HD I can’t.

Yeah, I shot my most recent video on a new Samsung HMXH100 Full HD camcorder. Yikes. It’s probably great to get this level of high-def detail if you’re shooting backyard birds, or car races or something. But to point this Samsung camera at my own face, at close range? Brutal.

The resulting video administered a lethal dose of reality to my career as a YouTube phenom. You could see every little detail on my face. Every line, every dry patch. All the dermatological aftermath of my long years of hard-won experience. I looked… thirty.

No way can I compete with these little teenaged camwho—er, excuse me, these youthful online personalities. And the fans aren’t sentimental about jumping ship to some younger, hotter ‘Tuber’s channel. It’s just like: So long, old lady, and thanks for all the vids.

Oh, well. It was probably time for me to make the transition to the other side of the camera. What I’ve always really wanted to do is direct, anyway. Think there’s room in the vlogosphere for an all-birdwatching-and-NASCAR channel?
