Morning Gory

As a matter of fact, yes, there is a reason I wake up to a picture of myself Photoshopped to look like I have an advanced case of extreme acne.

If I don’t get out of bed on time, I’m late for work. If I’m late for work, before long I’ll get fired. If I get fired, I won’t have any income. And if I don’t have any income, there’s no way I can afford to keep up my skin-care regimen. The radio alarm and MP3-player input are nice, but the threat of poverty is what really gets me out of bed in the morning.

My Polaroid Digital Picture Frame/Alarm Clock isn’t always set to show poor, poor pimply me. Sometimes it’s a 6” full-color shot of the Hardee’s dumpster that would be my kitchen in a post-employment world. Or the desolate highway underpass where I’d have to entertain my gentleman callers. Or the unflattering, grimy giveaway clothes I’d have to wear. Or the park where I’d be sleeping, along with some extremely aggressive ducks, geese, and swans who put the “foul” in “waterfowl”. I know, I know, they’re spelled differently. Phonetically it works.

And I’d like to keep working myself. So I’m filling up that 128MB internal memory with 2,000 images of squalor, degradation, and zits. Yeah, it’s not exactly nice to see first thing in the morning. But it’s more pleasant than a duckbill to the face.
