Inno Like Flynno
Oh, boy, here we go again. Another occasion for Sirius/XM partisans to throw down in our forum. If only this evergreen argument could be conducted under Thunderdome rules! But no, it’s always a dozens-enter, no-one-convinces-anyone-else, everyone-leaves situation. Ah, well. While the zealots squabble, let’s the rest of us consider Pioneer’s Inno Portable Satellite Radio,
Just a wee three-finger handful, this portable soundstation is nonetheless fully loaded with all the features an informed, on-the-go music lover and information junkie could want. Or you. It plays 170 satellite-clear channels of live XM radio or whatever mps and wma files you store on it from your home library.
What’s more, it lets radio programming mix and intermingle with that stored library. How is this near-miracle achieved, you ask? Well, we’ll tell you. But you don’t have to be all sarcastic about it.
It works like so: You can record from XM to the device, or tag a song from the radio to download it from Napster later. It even has a time-shifting memory mode for playing back XM programming that came over the air at a bad time for you.
Of course, you’ll need a monthly XM subscription to get all the programming—ad-free music channels plus talk radio, college sports, Major League Baseball, NASCAR, etc. And to use it in the car, you’ll want the separately-available “car kit.” But this package has everything you need for portable and home use.
Now, let the inevitable boosterism begin! We can hear it already. “XM has more college football!” “Sirius has Howard Stern!” You know what would be great? If both sides had to pick a representative to fight it out in real life with chainsaws. ‘Cause then everybody wins.
