Micro3 bills this funny little contraption as a “valuable business tool for businessmen,” and we suppose they’d know. It strikes us as a pretty weird tool, this mini scanner that reads business cards and transfers the information contained thereupon into your PC, mobile phone or PDA. We’re in some kind of strange tidal pool here, on the coast of a weird country where waves from the rising tide of electronic information management systems still crash on the last remaining shores of a primitive nation of low-tech holdouts, where the land-dwellers cling to their ancient ways even as their island steadily sinks into the sea.
But what do we know? Maybe this gizmo is a traveling salesman’s best friend. Maybe it’s hands-down the best tool there is to compile, sort and recall the essential contact information that the suit-and-tie crowd always has and probably always will print out on little cards they seem to get such a kick out of trading, collecting and fetishizing.
After all, if we had the first clue about “business,” we’d probably run a store with more than one thing in it. Or, at the very least, our one thing wouldn’t be this.
