So Wait, What Is This Thing Now?
When these mysterious black boxes started turning up in the warehouse, a tense twinge of anxiety rippled through the Wootforce. Who sent them? Why are they here? Are they subtly influencing our thoughts and actions to prepare the way for our eventual enslavement by an alien race? Can we blame them for our compulsion to eat four or five Twixes every day and wash them down with generous flagons of woot wine? Inscrutable in their featureless ebony armor, they yielded no answers.
After extensive testing, examination, and reading of the user manual, we’ve determined that the Logitech Play Link Wireless Extension has a much more mundane purpose. As far as we can tell, it exists solely to wirelessly connect your ethernet-enabled devices to your wired ethernet network. You plug one of the boxes into your router and one into your device, it appears. So, like, if you’re craving some online multiplayer console gaming, but your Xbox or PlayStation2 or whatever is thirty feet away from your broadband router, and stringing cords through the house would cause inconvenience, injury and/or death, it’s for you. We think.
It also gives the same treatment to network printers, scanners, set-top boxes, PVRs, etc., letting them connect wirelessly to your wired network. And not via regular old wi-fi, but by some scheme of its own devising that’s more secure and easier to set up. Evidently. We’re pretty sure it doesn’t have sinister designs on your pathetic Earthling psyche, and is not an advance agent of a hostile, unimaginably terrifying invasion force. But don’t hold us to that.
