You know, when we read that the Logitech Cordless Desktop MX 5000 Laser bills itself as “the world´s first intelligent desktop,” we kind of winced. After all, this boast appeared on our monitor, right where our own desktop suite could see it, and how was that going to make it feel?

That’s the thing, though—it’s not like the MX 5000 Laser to consider the feelings of other pieces of hardware. It’s all flash and sass with its LCD keyboard display and high-speed Bluetooth wireless hub. The prominent bulge of its MX Laser mouse on display like that makes it God’s Gift to PC users. “C’mon,” it almost seems to say. “lay a couple fingers on these touch-sensitive media controls.” What a self-centered ass!

We don’t need those fancy-schmancy features, thank you very much. We’re quite happy with our trusty, weathered, last-year’s model keyboard and mouse. So what if there are pulverized Cheeto bits between the keys? So what if the R key sticks, so evey othe time we ty to fie off an angy lette to the edito, we come off looking illeteate?

No thanks, no slick, pompous new desktop for us. But we’ll let you have it pretty cheap if you want.
