Stuck In The Middle With You

Pity the poor middle child. The in-betweener’s lot is a hard one. Always tagging along behind the older kids, never as cute as the younger ones. Forced to wear big sister’s hand-me-downs until they’re too threadbare to even hand down…so the baby gets brand-new clothes. Forever suspended between babysitter and babysat, between Young Adult and Early Reader, it’s no wonder so many middle children grow up to become ax murderers, bagpipe players, or Congressmen.

So it is with the Klipsch RC-35 Center Channel Speaker. While everybody oohs and aahs over the surround effect produced by the right and left speakers, the RC-35 toils away unnoticed in the middle, doing the unglamorous heavy lifting. Where are the plaudits for its detailed, lifelike sound? Who’s going to pinch its cheek and tell it how cute its dual cerametallic cone woofers are? Is there room in anyone’s heart for its Tractix Horn titanium dome compression driver? Maybe it should just run away. Then everybody would be sorry.

It just isn’t fair. The satellite speakers even get pride of place on the front page of Woot’s flagship site, while the center speaker is relegated to the remote, wind-blown reaches of Sellout.Woot. But don’t cry for the Klipsch RC-35 Center Channel Speaker. It’s used to being stowed away on some shelf while the other speakers get to stand proudly on the floor. It’ll survive. And it’ll be tougher for the experience. What doesn’t kill us only makes us louder.
