Office Romance
It was never something I expected to happen. When we got a new HP Pavilion Media Center TV m8330f Desktop PC for our payment-processing station, I hardly noticed. Just another computer in an office full of them, I thought, and one that barely belonged at that. Sure, I appreciated its AMD Phenom™ 9500 Quad-Core Processor running at 2.2GHz, its SuperMulti DVD Burner with LightScribe Technology, its 3072MB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM memory. Who wouldn’t? But it had that NTSC tuner. It wasn’t designed for this line of work. For the most part, I forgot it was even there.
Then one night, I was working late. Everybody else had gone home. And I needed to look up the payment history of one of our clients. As I sat down amid the shadows of the darkened office, something happened. The HP Pavilion Media Center TV m8330f Desktop PC looked different somehow. The curves of its chassis were oddly inviting. Its 640GB Serial ATA hard drive purred silkily, smoothly, seductively. Even though I knew this HP was fully grounded, it was almost as if an electric charge passed through the keyboard and into my fingertips.
First we talked television. It was so easy, like it knew everything. Then it mentioned that ATSC High Definition tuner that was built in. Then we were joking. I showed off my the scar I picked up scuba diving, it showed me that HP Personal Media Drive Bay.
It all hit at once. In a sudden, urgent moment of passion, we embraced. I caressed its easy-to-reach USB and FireWire ports. I felt the warm breath of its cooling fan on the back of my neck. Right there on the payment-processing desk, two lonely souls intertwined.
Like a good employee, I did the honorable thing: reported our intra-office relationship to Human Resources. To my shock, I was fired on the spot. Del, the security guard, stood between me and the HP Pavilion Media Center TV m8330f Desktop PC while I gathered up my things. I never even had a chance to say goodbye. But one thing I’d always have was the burning memory of that euphoric night. And no HR director could ever take that away.
