It’s 2011. Time for early 21st Century Nostalgia to begin.

But how is that going to work, really? The late 70s loved the 50s, but that was all cars and music. The mid 80s love the 60s, but that was because the boomers were all grown up. The late 90s were all about the 80s, because now the companies were ready to market to trends. And the 90s nostalgia has been sweeping along for a while now, including some strange tie-in nostalgia for the 70s and 80s. It’s all so Terence McKenna, isn’t it?

But regardless, now we’re crossing that threshold on the Internet. But where is our Day The Music Died? Where are our exciting world-changing concerts? Is there really anyone who can seriously say “Boy, I miss using 56k to search up AOL keywords so I can watch short clips in .ram format!” Maybe All Your Base was cute for a day, but it’s no ‘57 Chevy.

So Internet, let’s stand together and overthrow the idea of “nostalgia” before it starts. Let’s all agree to just stick to things like the HP Pavilion 6GB/1TB Computer. It’s got a terabyte of space, which is something that just didn’t exist back in “the golden age” of the Internet, and there’s 6GB of memory too. Plus built-in Wi-Fi, which was X-Files technology once upon a time, and a CD/DVD burner and USB ports and a Memory Card Reader too. You want to give that all up and bust out the X86 with 512 megs? Yeah, we don’t either.

So let “nostalgia” die with the boomers and the stoners and the slackers. We’re the Internet generation! We live in the future! Our nostalgia is for things that haven’t happened yet! 2012, baby! 2012!
