This is the era of citizen journalism. But it’s also the era of citizen celebrity. Citilezbrity, let’s say. I hope to become a citilezbrity. Or maybe a celezbrien. Whatever.
The important thing is that technology and social networks have torn down the barriers to notoriety. There are no gatekeepers anymore. It’s a one-step process. That step: Do, or witness, something noteworthy. It doesn’t even have to be high-tone, like playing an amazing fiddle number (although it could be that). It could also be just some old thing that could happen to anybody.
Getting kicked in the head by a goat. Sighting a UFO. Surviving a car wreck. Or not surviving it. Spitting gum in the air and a bird catches it. Falling into, off of, or down between any number of things. You get the idea.
There’s no way to plan for any of these possibilities, really. You just have to be ready to go where life takes you, and be willing to go all in on whatever hand you’re dealt.

If any of those things happens to you, you’re going to want to be able to capture it on video instantly. Because your life will change basically on the spot. You will go from being just a schlub in one moment—to being “guy vomits on dog” the next. (Or whatever it is that happens to you.)
You’ll be enshrined in cultural history. You’ll become both man and myth. You’ll get to go on local news, probably.
