Once there was a man who fell in love with a mountain. Every day he would go outside with his Canon DC100 digital camcorder and film her long, lush inclines, admiring the way she reached up into the sky.
The DC100’s built-in image stabilizer kept his hand steady, so when he showed her to his friends she would never look blurry or unprofessional. Some days he would use the 25x optical zoom lens to discover her secret caves and the lush shrubbery on her northern face. Some days he would just step back from her base and try to find the perfect shot.
In his house, he had hours and hours of footage. The Canon DC100 digital camcorder, after all, could record directly to DVD. He could just aim and shoot, and the DC100 would find the blank space. No risk of tape-overs, no risk of lost footage. The DC100 also let him review and assemble playlists on the fly, a bit like editing a movie, and with the DC100’s 16:9 letterbox recording capacity, he was able to film every inch of her, from clouds to grass. Some nights after dark he would sit under an oak tree and look at her shining on the 2.7” LCD screen. He never said a word but, to himself, he never lost hope of finding just one shot, one single shot, that would explain to the world the joy he felt when he could smell her icy peaks, wrapped like a present in the fresh wind that rolled down her slope.
When he was very old, one of his few remaining friends found him at the little cabin he built in her shadow. His backpack full of the 3” DC100 -R/-RW discs that were able to hold 30 minutes in standard mode and 60 minutes in long play mode and he was slumped over the kitchen table. They took his body and his footage back into town.
For days, there was nothing around the mountain but relentless, mournful rain.
