We have seen the enemy…and they’re made of styrofoam. With production values reminiscent of the cheapest ‘50s sci-fi epics, the Area 51 Remote Control UFO won’t cause Orson Welles-style panic in the streets this Halloween. But it might cause some amount of amusement around the house – or should we say, inside the house. That’s right, it’s a remote-control flying device that, according to the manufacturers, “will not withstand outdoor wind.”

Some might wonder why this thing was even manufactured. But those naysayers are forgetting the plight of bedridden RC-flight enthusiasts. As long as those shut-ins are shut in a reasonably big room, they’re in for several minutes of mildly amusing fun. And we imagine this might raise a chuckle or two if you set it flying across your open-plan office on casual Friday. For everybody else, yeah, it’s almost useless. But it’s also almost free.
