Nano Nano Boo-Boo
Leave it to Apple. Of all the synonyms for “small”, they hone in on the one with the most buzz, the most sizzle. Or the most pretentiousness, depending on which side of the marketing desk you make your living on. “Nano” sounds hip, futuristic, a little mysterious…now. In, say, six years, using the modifier “Nano” will mark you as a hopeless chump, like calling something “groovy” in 1979 or “extreme” in 1999.
So jump on the Nano train now before it goes the way of the cyber express. With 8GB of storage space, a 2” color LCD screen, and the usually narrow range of Apple-approved video formats, it’s the iPod for people who don’t want to make a big fuss about it. You can prove your Nano Age bonafides by downloading the iTunes software and the iPod Nano user manual – only old-economy brick-and-mortar squares expect a product to actually come with physical instructions.
Then, start thinking up a new name for it while you can. We suggest “Clover”, “Kenneth”, or “Rascal”, but anything but “Nano” will do. Or maybe you’re one of those people who don’t care about superficial things like seeming hip, and you just want a full-featured, compact, versatile media player at a good price. We have a name for people like you, too: “Sansa buyers”.
