There’s a discount supermarket near our office, the kind of place where they leave everything in the cardboard boxes they came off the truck in and pass the savings on to you. Certain items at this store must be kept behind the whimsically named “Customer Service Desk”, lest they tempt the clientele into larceny. Cigarettes, for instance. Batteries. Crown Royal gift sets complete with snifter and velvet bag. And an odd selection of off-brand electronics, a lot like this Spectroniq 7” PDV-70X Widescreen Portable DVD Player.

We don’t know for sure if this particular player is among them. They don’t let us hang out and write copy at the supermarket since the infamous Brach’s incident. But from the 7” screen to the low price to the hilarious oh-so-futuristic brand name, this Spectroniq DVD player is something that this supermarket would be proud to lock up so its customers can’t steal it. And now, thanks to Woot, you can buy one without having to wait in line behind people playing the lotto and paying their electric bills and buying money orders. We can’t help you with the cigarettes or the Crown Royal, though.
