Happy Music Monday! Have you ever had one of those moments when you're singing along with a song, and then it suddenly hits you what the words mean? Sure, song lyrics are nothing you'd call the cops about, but even still, right? Today Scott's gathered five songs that might be classics, but are just sorta weird. Here's the first one to show you what we mean.
Lou Reed - Walk On The Wild Side
Most likely, Lou Reed finished this song about the dark side of New York and figured people would be turned off by the sex jokes, or the drug references, or the trans character getting ready to go out for the night. But what's the one thing that everyone notices first? That's right, the "colored girls" going doot, doo doot, doo doot. Lou obviously served that one up with a healthy dose of dramatic irony, but even today, the wording can turn heads.

Starlight Vocal Band - Afternoon Delight
Play this song to a sweet little kid, they'll imagine you're talking about some kind of picnic, with fireworks and ice cream. Play this song to a grown up, and they'll say HOW IS THAT EVEN ON THE RADIO??? And yet, this pop porno snuck to the top of the charts in 1976. Thankfully, Arrested Development dragged it over into the comedy world so it's probably not coming back.
Yes, it's got a good beat. Yes, it's from one of the earliest grrrl bands. Yes, it's them taking hold of their own sexuality after a few decades of being the direct objects of rock. But, no matter how you justify it, this is still the story of an underage sex kitten on the prowl. Does it rock? Of course! Is it still kinda creepy? Absolutely. But the Runaways have NOTHING on...
How can a man blessed with such a voice produce such a creep-filled hit single? The bet is to try and make it through the whole song without shuddering once, but don't take it, you'll almost certainly fail. The Runaways might need a little guidance, but the narrator in this one pretty much needs to be on a watch list.
The Beatles - Run For Your Life
John Lennon was a great artist, but in his early years, John Lennon was also kind of a jerk. To be fair about things, Lennon much later said this catchy song was the one he most regretted writing, but… well, it's still out there, isn't it? Give it the Trent Reznor treatment but keep the lyrics, it'd probably come out quite scary. As it stands now, it's easy to get lost in the groove and miss the not-so-hidden meaning.
