Happy Music Monday! As always, we end the year with the five songs Scott found this year that he a: liked the most and b: could find on YouTube. So here we go! Let's say farewell to 2015 together!
This Nigerien (he's from Niger) got famous because of the trading culture in West African music, via cell phones and memory cards. Yeah, seriously. Isn't that the best? He turned to Kickstarter to help him finish his masterpiece Rain The Color Of Blue With A Little Red In It. And now, he's starting to tour all over the world, and he's getting some airplay on the little indie radio stations of America. It's a nice mix of African flavor and pop skills and he's hopefully going to have a grand future. One of my favorite finds of the 2015.
Four more of Scott's 2015 discoveries to wrap up the year. And then, it'll be YOUR turn!
Dum Dum Girls - Letter To Hermione
Why, yes, it IS a Bowie cover! I'm a fan of the Dum Dum Girls and Bowie, so this was an autumn find that made me very happy. I was buying the record before I even reached that Kate Bush-like middle part, and today the record and I are very happy together. As a side note, the man himself has a new video out but it's not officially for sale until January, so I'm not counting it as part of 2015. BUT FOR GOD'S SAKE LISTEN TO IT
Univers - Travessant La Llum Del Soul
I found these guys... well, I can't remember how I found them. But they're French and I love their sound, it's a nice mix of guitar rhythms and ghostly haunting magic. Sort of Smiths-like, and yet, totally different. That'll make sense after you listen, I promise.
Daniel Bachman - Won't You Cross Over To That Other Shore
I heard this lovely song on KEXP, the local Seattle station near my apartment, and guess what? It was really easy to buy it online too! If you enjoy serious acoustic guitar, you'll enjoy this record from beginning to end. Ideal for one of those wintery days when you just want to sit and stare out the window at nothing.
And, just to wrap it up, here's a band that already existed but I finally discovered this year. And now, it's your turn. Finish up the 2015 Music Monday experience by sharing some stuff you discovered for the first time in 2015. And if you've got nothing, hurry up and discover something! You've got a few more days still!
Let us just remind you: some images come from the corresponding Wikipedia page and are here under fair use. See you next year LOLZ that never gets old.
