The United States of Songs: Wisconsin

by Randall Cleveland

Here we go! The United States of Songs is winding down. We're so close I can almost taste it. Let's get down to brass tacks this week, with Wisconsin!

The state: Wisconsin
The song: "Wisconsin Girls" by some YouTube creepshow

Ah, the Badger State. I've driven through while traveling from Minneapolis to St. Louis. It was winter, so all I ever saw my own panicked expression in the rearview mirror as I hoped to whatever cosmic entity could help me that we wouldn't hit black ice or a 40-ft. snowbank.

But Wisconsin's nice, based on my admittedly small sample size. And there's so much more than cheese! There's, uh, Harley-Davidson! And polka music! And sure, the song is a poor attempt at bashing Wisconsin women, but they do cover a lot of the bases about the state. And the song is just cheesy (no pun intended) enough to adequately convey Wisonsonites' sense of humor about themselves.

I like your song, Wisconsin. let me know what you think. And come back next week for the big finish: Wyoming!
