the rejectorator has been a little lenient lately, but imo i wouldn't be able to tell the theme from the image alone.

If it sneaks through I'm in for at least two for my kids, that duckling is adorable!

I'm still working on this sketch--need to add the elements for each character, etc--but I wanted some input before I take it too much farther. These ladies are intended to be the four elements (water, air, earth, fire). What do you guys think? Is it on-theme? Too feminine? I'd really love some suggestions and comments.

I'm thinking of calling it The Family Elemental.

(Sorry for the crappy image quality, I scanned it at 150dpi on my work scanner).

Jas, I like both of your shirts! Though I agree that a rubber ducky followed by a line of (real) chicks would be hilarious.

Ok, first... please vote if you like my designs, they're up (links in sig). Thanks

Response to the rest of your feedback in a moment...

no1 - I feel like most derbies it's hard to tell the theme from the design, so I think it will be ok.
But, I would resubmit with improvements...

Thanks KT and EM for your comments!

Changes I'm thinking of...

- duckling being a little lower, head tiled up, and looking up at the rubber duck with a heart. Rubber duck looks straight ahead. What do people think? Would a heart help it?

- duckling line is a super cute idea as well. Kind of a whole different idea though. Is anyone familiar with the book "Are you my mother?" This was kind of a reference to that. This little bird goes around, and says that to things... a dog, a construction crane... that kind of thing. It's a really cute book.

A little heart would be adorable. Now that you mention it I do remember that book--so go for whichever way you'd like!

The little heart was going to be my only suggestion, and I don't think it necessarily needs it unless rejected.

I used "Are You My Mother" in a photochop contest. . . . there are lots of wooters familiar with the SNORT.

Oh really, you were going to suggest a heart...nice. I will try reworking it later and see how it looks. Will have to make the duckling yellow the same as the rubber duck yellow if the heart is going to be red though, so hope that works ok.

You used the book, neat. Haven't seen it in many many years though, I forgot about the snort until you said it now!

So, I keep hearing about these photoshop contests and have no idea what they are ...

Personally I like the duckling the way it is, so I hope you don't have to lose some of it's beauty by adding a heart. I'd still use that as a fallback.

In Woot Contests (do they still have their own area?) there are occasionally a photoshop contest, it used to be just a weekend thing, so we started Dodgeball in the World of Woot - well KT started it - and that was to give us something to do the rest of the week. Now the contest runs all week I think. Josephus and Shan are judges, but their choices have to be approved by Toon (this sometimes takes a very very long time to happen) and then there is the issue of the next contest never being posted, plus a lot of talent left to do shirts, because the money is way better. Some of us disapeared because of lack of time.

Hmmm. I guess I will have to check it out. So the photoshop contests actually have prizes? And it's in the woot side of things, that's where I find it?
And what is dodgeball (on here)?

Also... what is PWA? I keep seeing PWA in here, but I haven't yet figured it out. I'm sure I'm going to feel silly when I know.
Amazing how long one can be on the site and wonder what people are talking about!

Dodgeball's on WOW, don't think it's a great contest this week, but it often is.

yes. the prize is tiny in comparison to the derby, though. tops out at $100. used to be weekly. they are few and far between now, which is understandable, since they don't generate direct revenue for woot. in the old days, they were dominated by some photoshop wizard named tgentry.

i think skek's just saying his participation in the chop contest waned as he started spending more time derbying and posting in pwa.

Ok... so... what do people think of the heart version? I also lowered the duckling a bit and made him look up a bit more. And had to change the coloring somewhat in order to fit in the red color.

I liked the first version. I like this one. The design works either way. Although freeing up the red color means less for other elements, and I kinda liked the older color scheme a bit more.

I'm not speaking for everyone, just me. I started chopping, but PWA took time away from that, and now that I'm a derbier almost full time, I don't go to the chops anymore.

A bit of shadow under all the elements on the ground? Bigger chunks of cheese next to the wedge? Dunno. Looks real nice as it is!

Thanks.. hmmm I'm confused. Not sure if the benefits of the heart outweighs the color changes or not.
Anyone else have a direct preference? Heart or no heart?

Here's another version with heart:

I'm with Skek, I like the original, the heart works too and you don't notice the image is missing anything, but the original colors were very nice. I'd go without the bubble if you sub the heart version.

Joe - very nice!

Btw... here's another design I was thinking of. Uses some elements from an old derby. Thoughts?

Jasper thought at the rate rabbits reproduce, the rabbit family wouldn't notice him in disguise, but it looks like they DO know all their family members.

It's kinda hard to tell what Jasper is, maybe move the fake ears behind his real ears, so that it's more obvious.
