CommunityWoots23” Widescreen Full HD 1080p LCD Mo...

Bought one of these earlier this year. About one month ago (OCT '09) the backlight went out. I read about some problem with the power supply and backlight and replacing some bad capacitors so I took mine apart. I didn't see any bad caps. Ended up purchasing a new one (Asus). I liked the HP LCD stand so much that I removed the one from the ASUS LCD and put the ASUS LCD on the HP stand.
The ASUS LCD has VGA, HDMI and DVI connections and comes with all of the cables required. It doesn't have USB ports though.

The stand raises, lowers and tilts. BTW you can remove the markings over the logo to reveal the HP logo.

[quote postid="3560393" user="paintballkev812"]Here's a little info about the LCD(I'm sure most of this has been posted throuhout the last four pages but...)
1. This monitor has HDMI and it looks like it has HDCP also, therefor it can be connected to anything that sends a signal out through HDMI(xbox 360, satellite boxes, cable boxes etc)[quote]

You're not wrong here, but I do want to point something out. HDCP is a digital rights management (DRM) standard applied to HDMI connections. You don't need HDCP to connect HDMI, you only need HDCP to send a protected 1080p stream to the monitor. At the distance you'll be viewing this monitor at, you're not going to tell the difference between 720p and 1080p. Thought I'd note that for folks comparison shopping that might see HDCP as a barrier.

Seems like they have been saying that for years...and whatever happened to SED TV's?

SED was never going to be much of a thing in the first place, not surprising it didn't go anywhere. They've always had manufacturing issues with it preventing it from becoming mass market.

I just paid $149 for a new 21.5" Acer monitor that handles 1920x1080. I'm not so sure at how good of a deal this is/was, but apparently plenty of people jumped on it. Granted mine is 21.5" instead of 23" but I saw 23" ones for around $190 new with better specs than this. I guess it depends on how much $50 is worth to a given person.

I bought one 8 months ago and love it...Great buy.

Purchased this earlier today for my first Wooted item. I hope that I am pleased. My needs are nominal and my expectations are that the thing will work well for a number of years.

Cheers-

OLED's are already on the market but mostly in small formats right now, cell phones, pda's,mp3 & mp4 players and Sony has a TV

It's the same as the 25.5 inch I got less than 2 mo. ago, it's an HP.

Great price, it sold out for a reason.

I paid $100 more for the 25.5 which is 2.5 inches more. I would have grabbed 2 of these if I was around to check woot today.

Again, a great deal and these are made by HP. Any monitors we have from HP have lasted a long time. I don't know how today's are built, I don't like their 'puters anymore.

I just don't get this one. I can get a BRAND NEW 23" 1920x1080 monitor from any of several different manufacturers on NewEgg for leaa than $200. Why did so many people buy this from W00t???

Newegg.com, 179 + 9 shipping = $188.
Woot.com, 150 + 5 shipping = $155.

Difference = 17.5% less. People obviously think that 17.5% less is enough to take a chance on the refurb. I have never had a problem with a refurb from anywhere, and usually buy refurbs when I can.

I bought 5 Xbox 360's two years ago for less than $100 each, and now I have my whole house wired for video, pictures, and sound via my MS Home Server that is running on a refurb HP computer that I got for $150. Plus it plays games.

When they RROD it was still worth it.

I'm jealous. I can't think of a single refurbed product I have ever bought that didn't scaffolding out soon after buying it, from [land line] telephones to car stereos to laptops. I've just given up on them.

I bought this about 1 1/2 years ago for about $300.00 at Staples. I'm going after HP for a refund. HP leaps into the vacuum big time for going so quickly to the secondary markets! HP here I come..

I did a google for 23 inch with the bright technology and all the first choices were HP.
I the HP read identical to this one.

Picked one up -- figured what the heck. Getting a brand new computer so perhaps I could do the dual monitor thing because it also came with a 23" monitor. muahaha!

This is the 3rd HP debranded monitor i've bought from woot. (24" from sellout.woot in August, 20" from woot at the end of October, now this 23") I can't be happier with the first 2 buys. The 24" i'm using with my HD DVR as a TV, with a cheap surround sound system and the 20" as a 2nd computer monitor.

This should be in every Woot thread, at least those that ship FedEx. Thanks to whoever posted it in the netbook thread last month... I just did it for this one and it arrives tomorrow!

The FedEx trick is:

1. Get your order number from Woot for the item, look at your online receipt for it.

2. Go to https://www.fedex.com/AltRefTracking?cntry_code=us for FedEx track by reference.

3. Ignore account number, enter your order number as the reference, approximate shipping date, United States, your zip code. If FedEx has the shipment you'll know, often a day or three before Woot sends you an email.

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- More:

Apparently, Woot sent FedEx a shipping notification on Monday. This is what caused the FedEx site to estimate pickup on Monday and delivery today. However, the pickup has yet to happen, which probably explains the lack-of-monitor on my doorstep this morning. Still waiting on that pickup. I know they have until Friday at 11:59PM, but my netbook was Wooted one Friday and arrived the next... if I remember, it wasn't in the FedEx system until Wednesday night. Oh well. Patience. Anyone else using the FedEx trick and showing an actual package scanned?

If you use iTunes you can also get the free iPhone app for the iTunes remote. This let's you control your music playback from anywhere as long as both iPhone and computer are on the same wi-fi network.

Mine's in transit now!

This monitor is my first Woot buy. Given the comments just above this one i still do not know if my order is in transit. I have an email saying that my purchase was made but nothing about any shipment. Seems others have gotten an email or do I find out about fulfillment someplace in my online account info?

Thanks for some guidance for a rookie.

If you follow the directions in kcox5342's fedex post you should be able to find out where your package is. This is my first woot as well, I'm a bit anxious myself!

I got confirmation from woot that it shipped, but nothing shows from fedex.

Does that mean my estimated delivery is "forever"?

My woots:

  • Griffin Amplifi Home Speaker System
  • XPal Portable Li-Po Battery Pack
  • Debranded HP 23" Widescreen 1080p LCD Monitor

Guess this is one time it pays to live in AZ. Both monitors delivered yesterday afternoon. Haven't had a chance to unbox them yet - hopefully this w/e.

Yea, watching the films? I live in Austin, a 3 hour drive from Irving. Why would FedEx route through Yuma/Phoenix? I had another woot routed through Chicago a while ago. Makes ya wonder what they're smokin in Irving.

Got mine. Picture is fine, audio through HDMI not so much. Volumn at max is pretty low. Is there an amp that will address this and not cost a bundle?

beefmalone

Mine came yesterday. Just hooked it up and everything has a reddish/pink tint to it. Is there a setting that will fix this?

SteveOrsz

Ok, so I want to use this for my PS3 or xbox360. How does one go about using external speakers for audio?? I have a surround sound system that can connect via a 3.5mm stereo cable.

ottojj1

I got mine today (finally). Display is phenomenal - looks really nice. I had a little issue using the HDMI connection (had a black border about 1" all around). If you have an ATI card (or integrated card), go to this site and there's a fix listed (has to do with the default being to scale the image 10%). If you have problems finding it - keep reading the posts - one of them gives specifics on where to adjust the settings.

http://h30434.www3.hp.com/psg/board/message?board.id=Monitor&message.id=2114

One more point of clarification - the "configure" option only shows up when you right click the display at the bottom of the window, not the one on top - you'll know what I mean when you see it.

I just received my monitor today and used an HDMI connection. The picture is amazing. Not a dead pixel in sight. I use my NVIDIA Control Panel to handle all monitor adjustments as it allows me much more control over subtle picture changes. Also remember to change your resolution to 1920 x 1080 in windows for this unit. We all knew that this famous maker was an HP, but my Nvidia panel is showing me this is an HP w2338h. This model is currently selling for 236.30 on amazon. Great deal wOOt! This makes up for the horribly defective gaming adapter you sold me - the one that kept me on tech support for 5 hours and I still had to send it back. But I luv ya for this one.

Also, remove that little crappy sticker (HD color display) down in the bottom right corner and you will find HP w2338h crossed out with a black sharpie line through it. It's better w/o the sticker.
