I have 3 of these de-branded HPs and they work flawlessly. No dead pixels or anything.
ilta wrote:I've heard of HP. They make computer thingies.
Exactly my point! Even HP, a well-known computer company, doesn't want their name on such a lousy product! Instead, they'll "re-brand" their warehouse full of defective TV's and ship them out to the highest bidder - in this case, Woot!
Well I just bought a 21 inch Famous Maker (HP) during the woot off and and considering buying this one as well! Great price on both but I dont know if I need 2 extra monitors!
I could be wrong but I believe that logo on the bottom of the frame is that of the United Network Command for Law Enforcement.

United Network Command for Law and Enforcement
100% of my refurbished monitor purchasing experiences from woot have been horrible. 3 different brands, 8 different monitors, 100% of them exchanged - 3 shipping at my cost because woot wouldn't do anything and manufacture refused to pay it. just a heads up!

For comparison there is a New LED Dell 24" LCD mentioned on Passwird.com for $211 right now. I'd go with that personally, it's just a coupon code and the Dell LED on Dell Small Business. Dell G2410 24" Full HD LED Monitor $211.65 shipped at Dell SB Dell SB has the Dell G2410 24" Full HD LED Monitor for $309 - $60 instant savings - 15% off coupon code 9PD$33PJFL5P21 = $211.65 with free shipping. Features: 1920 x 1080 resolution, Up to 1,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, 250 nits brightness, 5ms response time.
pres02 wrote:wait what no DVI who would want this pile
Re: NO DVI You can get a DVI to HDMI adapter. DVI and HDMI are almost electrically identical. The primary differences are the connector itself and the fact that HDMI has audio as well as video. But converting either to the other is just a $5 adapter.
enoeno45 wrote:How is 2500x1600 twice that of 1920x1080? 2x1920x1080 is 3840x2160. How does your 100hz CRT monitor have 4x more frame rate than a 60hz LCD? Side note 120hz monitors are popping up now in the gaming scene.
2500x1600=4M pixels. 1920x1080=2M Pixels. 2Mp times 'twice as many' pixels is 4M Pixels. 10 YEARS ago there were +285MHz CRT's. But Mhz!=FPS. 1080p is only 24fps. For Years gamers would not touch LCD's. FPS guys still wont. I am just telling you what I know was. What I know is. Google. Read. Become wise. Ascend. Then come back and tell us how it is. Edit mcapplbee has it covered.
hairybarrier wrote:I got the branded version with my computer. It's got great color/picture and it came with VGA, DVI, and HDMI. Maybe this one is older so that's why there is no DVI.
HDMI is NEWER than DVI, not older.
hoolahoopzoo wrote:Is it just me, or does the idea of HDCP bug anyone else? What if I create an unencrypted hi-def DVD (or somethin') I want to watch and this !@#$% monitor doesn't let me? Doesn't that sound like more forced compliance to anyone else? Question: are there any similar monitors _without_ HDCP? Or do they come at a premium? Thanks in advance.
You are way off base. HDCP does not REQUIRE encryption, it only PERMITS it. Normal operation is unencrypted unless the content requires it. With an HDCP monitor (and video card) you can watch any content, protected or not. Without HDCP, you can ONLY watch unprotected content.
enoeno45 wrote:How is 2500x1600 twice that of 1920x1080? 2x1920x1080 is 3840x2160.
1920x1080 = 2,073,600 pixels 2500x1600 = 4,000,000 pixels So he is correct (approximately): 2500x1600 is twice 1920x1080. This is how you correctly compare resolutions.
I am looking at this monitor right now. I love it, great picture and a good size!
This is why I bought a DVDR with an Analog/ATSC/QAM tuner with HDMI out. Too bad that I just bought another gadget.
ywkhgqo wrote:yes, you could use this as a tv through a cable box. Anything that transmits via HDMI or VGA(ps3, xbox 360, pc, blu ray) would work on this monitor. My roommate has the 24" HP version of this and the picture is PHENOMENAL. Really bright and clean. Definitely recomend.
Does that include Wii?
I'm guessing from the picture the answer is "no", but does this one rotate to portrait view, for long documents?
2500x1600 = 4,000,000 pixels in display. 1920x1080 = 2,073,000 pixels in display. So yes... roughly twice the actual resolution. 2*1920x1080 working out to 3840x2160 is FOUR 1920x1080 monitors... only get to multiply one or the other dimension, not both. (2*1920)x1080=3840x1080 or 1920x(2*1080)=1920x2160.
Infusor wrote:Uh...vga can't do 1080p, so only one of those inputs is fully functional.
VGA is an analog signal... It's not ment to or will it ever display 1080p.
Is the depth of this monitor really 19" ? the monitor opening on my desk is only 11" deep
Reading the stats, it says that the max humidity tolerance for operation is 80%, and the max for storage is 95%. Since I live on an island where the humidity is pretty much routinely over 80%, and I keep the house open on pretty days, what does this bode for the life and repair of this unit?

I purchased one of these from another site earlier this year (Forgive me WOOT!) and it was awesome. Was because within a couple of weeks it started flaking out then died. The site took it back for a full refund. I wish I could trust it becuase the screen was as nice as my 24" iMac. And as far as the newegg link above me. I bought that after I returned the Famous Maker and it is no where near as nice. Not even close.
For those still wondering about the picture of Daniels, it was taken at APW Impacto Total, a Mixed TNA / APW Houseshow in Lisbon, Portugal.
tituswelch wrote:Is the depth of this monitor really 19" ? the monitor opening on my desk is only 11" deep
I was just about to mention this too! But since the depth is listed both as 19.4" AND 19.4 cm... and 19.4 inches deep would be really stupid... I'm assuming it is really 19.4 cm which is 7.6 inches deep. That's still big for a 23" flat screen, and I'm hoping that's just the depth of the base... but either way, it should fit on your desk.
So which one is better Woot's 23" or this LG for same price, although only 22"? Thoughts? LG 23", $149
Cool... I already got a 23" 1080p Monitor from DELL... about the same price. I think mine was slightly more expensive, but had free shipping. Watch for DELL sales and you can do just about as good. Thanks.
Anybody know what the height is with the stand attached? I need to fit it in a cabinet. I'm assuming the spec data was without the stand otherwise I don't want it.
I WANT THREE!!!, but I can't afford one. Too sad...
i once complained i had no DVI - then I met a man with no feet.
wesdapilot wrote:It is an HP, it is a "debranded" model, meaning it is made for secondary markets. The same unit, referbed, is about $175 on most websites. Looks like a good price. My only problem is that the last time I purchased something "referbed" from Woot, it arrived DOA and Woot basically told me to go scratch. So, no more "referbs" from Woot....
That is fairly disconcerting. I think I'll stay away from the refurbs myself...
Sorry, I don't know much, but my cable box has HDMI port, does that mean I can watch tv using this monitor?
I believe you could use this with a DVD recorder that has HDMI upconversion. I have a DVD recorder purchased from WOOT! several years ago that has a tuner and has HDMI upconversion and I THINK they would be a good match....but I am not sure about it....the DVD recorder is still working and I use it quite a bit...and I think, but am not sure that it was a refurb...also, your credit card MAY extend (double?) your warranty period.
my MacBook monitor plug looks like what would call a small phone jack plug ie. a pin not the multiple pin VGA plug shown in the pic. are there cables with both theses ends?

I concur. I'm in for one at tiger! ty
williamngo wrote:noob question but can i watch tv on this? or is it just a monitor?
It doesn't have a built-in tuner, so technically they can't call it a TV, but if you have a cable box or satellite receiver that has HDMI output, then yes, you can watch TV shows on this.
Only real questions are what is the policy for dead pixels on this monitor and do you get a warranty backed by HP or by some fly-by-night refurb center.
pjbohn wrote:Does that include Wii?
Not without a special adapter. The Wii doesn't have HD output.
mmiteshm wrote:Youtube review. Really good review and looks like it will answer all of yr questions.
Yeh?? but Woot didn't add this from geeks.com: Additional Information: * Notes: * Model: TS-23W8h * Product Requirements: * Available power outlet * VGA adapter * Disclosures: * LCD displays may have cosmetic imperfections that appear as small bright or dark spots. This is common to all LCD displays used in products by all vendor and is not specific to any vendor or brand. Below are the acceptable amounts of "dot defects" for LCD displays that we sell: * 20-Inch to 24-Inch: * Total Defects: 8 * Bright or Dark Dots (random): 4 * Bright or Dark Dots (2 adjacent): 2 * Bright or Dark Dots (3 adjacent): 0 * Minimum distance between defects: 15 mm (bright to bright dots) * Minimum distance between defects: 5 mm (dark to dark dots)

One major problem if you plan on using the one at Tiger as a TV... no HDMI ports only DVI and VGA which means that if you planned on using a DVD player that upscales to 1080p, it wont work. DVD players will only up scale if you send the signal out using a HDMI compliant port they have to handshake with the monitor and you can't handshake with a DVI or VGA port... in fact the same thing happens with HDDVD players... I know I have 1 that doesn't work with my oldest flat screen TV because it only has the DVI and VGA plugs so the player downscales the HDDVD to 480p... that my friend leaps into the vacuum.
