Yes, this monitor has speakers and should come with a 3.5 speaker cable. But monitor speakers are usually sucky. Just get a cheap pair or speakers and you will be better off.

the only 21.5 I see at newegg at this price is an open box model from acer. everything else is at least $20 more, but I don't know what they charge for shipping.

Famous Maker de-branded is often new product that has been decoupled from its original brand because it was excess inventory that needed to be disposed of at a lower price; to avoid cannibalizing sales of the brand item, they are not sold under that brand.

Kind of like generic groceries which are often overruns or excess from the production of food intended to be sold under a specific brand.

uh, no...it will go higher than that. Look at this video card http://anvshopper.net/viduvga2db15.html it will do up to 2048 x 1536 @ 85Hz(Analog) 1080p is only 1920 X 1080 @ 60hz

The ASUS VH222H is 150 with a rebate. But monitors come up frequently for less and sometimes with free shipping. Just wait till newegg's black friday deals and you can prob get a new 23 1080p for around 170 or less.

Yes, there is a jack on the back to run the small included speakers.

I read that as a good verdict on the monitor, which - of course - it isn't.

Unless you live in a dark cave or basement, or like having the shades down all day, I'd say stay away from glossy monitors...

I got the branded version with my computer. It's got great color/picture and it came with VGA, DVI, and HDMI. Maybe this one is older so that's why there is no DVI.

I wonder why there are so many "Famous Maker" reburbs though? I spent 3 weeks trying to get support (Not for the monitor) and they couldn't do more than read a script to me. I don't know how anyone gets anything RMA'ed with that company.

Anyway, refurb + junk support from the "Famous Maker" = junk...to sell on Woot! PASS

The venerable VGA connector can do resolutions that make 1080p weep. There is no theoretical limit on the VGA connector. It really matters how extreme you want to get with your cabling and hardware.

Ten years ago I was playing Doom at ~2500x~1600@~100+ FPS. That is twice the resoluition of 1080p and 4 times the FPS.

DVI and HDMI is about content protection (DRM) not picture quality.

Is it just me, or does the idea of HDCP bug anyone else? What if I create an unencrypted hi-def DVD (or somethin') I want to watch and this !@#$% monitor doesn't let me? Doesn't that sound like more forced compliance to anyone else?

Question: are there any similar monitors _without_ HDCP? Or do they come at a premium?

Thanks in advance.

to me, the stand does not look to be adjustable, nor can it be tilted to the longview. which kinda kills this for me, but i really need one of this size.

They are calling him "Wonderkid" Jonny Storm on Flickr. What happened to Curry Man? Bring him back! Daniels has about as much personality as a ring mat.

Would this work with an HDMI to RCA converter?

Wouldn't the Condition on this be "New" then instead of "Refurb"?

How is 2500x1600 twice that of 1920x1080? 2x1920x1080 is 3840x2160.
How does your 100hz CRT monitor have 4x more frame rate than a 60hz LCD? Side note 120hz monitors are popping up now in the gaming scene.

Bought the 24" version a few months ago and so far it's GREAT!

Senshi

A few months ago they had one similar to this on sellout. It was a 24 inch one with just about same specs.

http://sellout.woot.com/Blog/ViewEntry.aspx?Id=9004

She didn't need one that big and put it up on ebay. Sold it for $50 bucks more than what she spent. As far as quality we didn't even open the box, we just shipped it out. But she got a good rating on ebay. There might have been a dead pixel but not sure since we didn't see it.

I thought this was an HP monitor from the symbol in the picture. Not sure about famous makers. I agree about the no DVI..it's hard to find a good videocard for a good price with a HDMI on it as of now.

I do know that I have 2 dell 23 inch monitors hooked up and they are freaking sweet! I love duel monitors. it's just buy 2 acers from newegg when they are on sell if it where me....

Sir, I suggest you start learning the difference between refresh rate and frame rate.

Start here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Refresh_rate

A CRT monitor @100HZ with VSync will get 100FPS, without VSync it will be uncapped (though you might notice tearing).

Plus LCD's have motion blur BUILT IN. It's called response time.

Please, do some research.

Are you kidding me? No DVI???

I highly question any monitor that is made without DVI as an input. I was about to purchase two for an eyefinity set up but obviously, no DVI = no eyefinity.

It's actually somewhat counter intuitive. HDCP enabled monitors ALLOW you to watch copy protected high-def content instead of blocking it. An unencrypted high-def DVD (like a burned Blueray) would play fine. But if you don't have an HDCP enabled monitor, than you would have to use a program like AnyDVDHD to decrypt blueray or HD-DVDs that you bought from a store.

Basically, HDCP monitors are good, and to answer your question non-HDCP monitors are normally cheaper, since they are generally older. (Everyone wants to be able to watch blueray in 1080p so they want an HDCP enabled display) It won't limit anything and you will want an HDCP enabled monitor if you want to be able to watch blueray or HD-DVD movies that you bought from a store.

If that didn't make sense, here is an article that will explain it with pretty pictures: http://www.digitalconnection.com/FAQ/HDTV_12.asp

I bought the 24" model last time it was on Woot. It's the same as this, really, only this is 16:9 while mine is 16:10.

The picture is very clear, and I really don't have any complaints. The speakers are pretty weak, but I don't think that's a big surprise. They'll do in a pinch to let you know when emails arrive and whatnot, but you won't want to use them to watch a movie.

For $150, I highly recommend this.

You guys who are complaining about DVI know that HDMI is pretty much the same thing, right? You can get yourself a DVI/HDMI adapter on Monoprice for $4.

No, that's four times the size. If you double each dimension, you're multiplying it by 2x2. 1920x1080 is 2.07 million pixels. 2500*1600 is 4 million. 3840x2160 is 8.29 million.

You'd have to use the HDMI port for the video, and standard audio cables going to a different source.

Things have changed!
In college, I had 17 inch color TV and thought it was huge! Now 40 inch plus HDTV's are the norm.
