CommunityWootsVornado Soleaire Personal Foot Heat...

In for at least two. Tired of having blocks of ice for feet in my office, and tired of listening to my daughter complain of the same thing at home.

In for one - the Raynauds is quite painful at times.

As someone who "suffers" from cold feet I will be quick to point out that "suffer" is a ridiculously strong word. I hate cold feet, they hurt, and this thing would be awesome, but...I mean, there are far worse things in this world. I'ma have to do some soul-searching to see if I really want to spend the money on this.

In for 1, a no brainer if you live in Chicago.

You're wrong. Clue: this thing is about making her happy and comfortable, the other appliances you mention not so much.

So the way I'm reading this, there are two types of wooters today. Those who think they can warm the arctic with a pair of socks and those that have wives. Don't think of it as a foot warmer, think of it as a going-to-bed-without-getting-icy-toecicles-placed-on-your-back-er.

After hours of anguish, I bought one. If it keeps my husband warm while he is at his desk, the silence will be worth it.

My first Woot here. I've been on the fence about getting one of these (or a space heater) for years now and couldn't pass up the the $20 price tag and favorable reviews.

I have horrible circulation to my extremities despite being in good shape. Even doubling up on socks does virtually nothing for my feet. Hoping this will be an economical alternative to using central heat, especially early in the morning before my roommates are up.

I'm curious as to whether the smell is an issue if you keep your feet clean and/or wear socks while using it.

Vornado makes a foot heater!? That's news to me. I'm not in need of one, but interested in how it performs. Thanks for the info woot!

do you want to smell her fett and are going to give this as a gift?

In for 2. Guys, the wives will love this. You'll also love it when she doesn't put those cold feet on you at night.

Her: "My feet are cold."

Me: "Didn't you put on socks?"

Her: "I forgot."

/facepalm

If this sits under her desk, she'll probably turn it on.

You can buy a heated mouse. My sister has one and I've been tempted to get one too. We both have Raynaud's.

Today's item looks so worth it! I ordered one for me and one for someone else in my office who's always cold.

Perhaps she loves the heat from this since you "bought it for your girlfriend YEARS ago ..." time to ask if you can share the same foot rest?

uhhhh...it draws TWO WHOLE AMPS, which is about equal to a P4 desktop, or less than your typical CRT monitor. If your circuits can't handle an additional 2 amps, they they're already overloaded or undersized, and your facilities manager should be fired!

geo8rge wrote:"ETL Listing Mark" is that some kind of ghetto U.L.?

Okay, here goes. ETL is the mark an independent testing agency (Intertek). They are a similar agency to UL, and compete with them. The important thng to note is that ETL typically tests to the UL standard - meaning they perform the same tests and protocols that UL does, so if it passes ETL, it has passed all of the required tests that would have been needed had it been certified by UL.

So why do manufacturers choose ETL? Cost (typically cheaper than UL), speed to market (typically quicker than ETL due to less backlog of products), typically more responsive than UL (easier to work with for the manufacturers - less bureaucracy).

Both are good testing labs, and you should feel comfortable with products certified by either. People are very familiar with the UL mark and that is why they are comfortable with it. ETL is growing and becoming a more popuulr alternative, so you should expect to see this listing more in the future.

Hope this helps.

I am going to put one of these in my deer stand. That way, the deer can have warm feet.

The comments in this thread make the conservatives vs. liberals debates pail in comparison. Finally a subject the American people can get excited about. Socks vs. Heater 

In for one as a gift so I guess you know what side I fall on.

Come on IF he said women see color better than men that would be a medically demonstrated fact as well AND would not elicit any issues. Thank g-d there ARE differences or why would we need each other!

lethargicmass wrote:There's a difference between sex-linked traits and sexism. Women's metabolisms are generally lower than men's, so they are more susceptible to cold than are men -- and the body cuts off blood flow to the feet first when it's cold. But everybody knows these things; you're just being reflexively, unthinkingly, condescendingly, and incorrectly politically "correct."

Just don't put it under the gas pedal of your new Toyota!

I'm in for one but will use it under my computer desk at home.

OK, here's my q: what if you use it with shoes on ? I mean I'll use it at work and I don't want to untie/tie my shoes every time I need to walk around ? From most ppl I understand they used it with socks but not with shoes on...

chucketal wrote:Bought two of these years ago to keep the employees' feet warm and they continue to work many years later. Heat level is not a lot, but enough. It will warm up a small office gradually over time. And yes, if you have stinky feet, it will nicely spread the smell throughout your office. Cleaning is relatively easy, they don't seem to clog up too much. Fans are kinda weak, but they do a decent job warming your feet. The angle of the heater is also ergonomically correct and seems to help those with lower back pain. I'd give 'em a 7.5 out of 10 for what they are.

Can you hear the motor running? I want to get it but don't want anyone to know I have it.

that now makes two things that should not go under the gas pedal in my toyota. geez, this list is growing fast!

ArrSea wrote:Some narrow minded replies but whatever.

I could wear 10 pairs of thermal socks and my feet will stay cold - and good luck trying to get shoes over on layered socks unless you have clown shoes.

I have even taken my socks to the electric hand dryers to warm them up and when I first put them on, ohhh so nice & toasty but it quickly wears off.

I currently use a regular space heater which is kind of a waste because the rest of me is fine, it's just my feet that are freezing usually.

I'm quite tempted to get this.

I'm also with the person who said we need heated keyboards! I can't use my mouse or type with gloves on (I've tried). ;-)

YES! I check field a weather station a few times a week and then always need to type some things up out there and my hands always get rather cold -- i like that idea!

Tagabolt

Everyone is screaming "Why not wear socks?!?", but when you're a woman who works in an office, you usually have to wear nicer shoes or heels (which you can't wear thick socks with). Give me a foot heater over keeping fuzzy socks in my desk drawer any day!

I'm down for one.

As to comments about the surface and type of plastic/whatever.. it looks like some sort of rubberized surface in the picture.

That soft-ish sort of rubber, not hard, like.. latex balloon or tire or bicycle tire.. that sort of "Rubbery."

Like, footwear sole rubber.

anyone know if you plug this thing in? or does it only take batteries?

In for 2. Chronically cold feet that sox do not help and a husband that thinks we should live in a meat locker year round. Besides no more costly than buying a non-heating foot rest for the work desk. Don't see the down side at all and if my feet are no longer frozen, even better.

ok, just to clarify

1-this is probably NOT good for diabetics, especially those with neuropathy. I can only imagine seeing one in my clinic with nice little burn pattern from leaving their feet on it all day.

2-PAD - this will probably do very little to help pad symptoms. PAD is due to a hardening and blockage of the arteries, heat will do very little to open these up more. Go get on statins from your doctor

3-Raynauds - probably the only condition this will help. Though Raynauds vasospasm is brought on by cold, so it does little good to warm your feet up then go outside in the cold. Best bet, dont let your feet get cold in the beginning.

Now Im still in for 1 as a gift, just dont be suckered into buying one because of a condition you have or know someone who might have...

The cooler a silicon chip is kept when running, the longer its lifespan -- so generally speaking, every little bit of heat hurts. (Unless you have a thermostatically-controlled cooling system for your PC which can dissipate the extra heat -- which you obviously don't, as you wouldn't be asking this question in that case.) However, the current market for PCs generally sees them obsolesced and replaced before the chips wear out, so assuming you don't try to milk 10 yers out of a PC, you won't see any impact on your its life or performance if you deploy this thing next to it.
