Doesn't work for me when it gets cold. Even extremely thick socks, for some reason, don't keep my feet and toes from getting chilled. I have a small space heater running under my desk right now for that very reason.

No doubt these will show up in the mall kiosks shortly at $60+, maybe with a deal for buy one get one 1/2 price. I can risk $20, even if ends up in a garage sale next summer. In for 2. Woot - keep the Christmas suggestions coming. I'm here everyday.

This heater makes sense for those of us who need extra heat only on our feet and legs, and who can be trusted with things that plug into wall sockets. I think I'm in for two: one for home and one for work. Now isn't it past your bedtime...?

Don't forget people, like me who suffer from raynauds syndrome... Don't know if i can really afford another woot on my college budget though..

SpeedStreet wrote:ACTUAL PRODUCT REVIEW HERE

This is ironic. We purchased one here for work and got the test unit in on Tuesday for double the price listed here. The unit was purchased to replace the 1600+ Watt space heaters people had hidden under their desks.

The shell is made of hardened plastic which seems to retain the heat rather well even after being shut off for a little while. The little fan is quiet and the heat generated by this little guy is substantial enough to warm the entire underside of my tester's desk. She is quite satisfied with it as a replacement for her heater.

Other bonuses are the fan only mode and the automatic shutoff. Now I don't have to worry about my space monkeys leaving fire hazards blazing overnight.

All in all a solid purchase, and its at half the price you find it for on Amazon.

Thanks for the review, I'm going to try it. My toes are like ice right now, even in my wool socks and wool slippers.

Would an eggo geometrically line up on this device?

Carp, my dear friend is in the eye of the beholder.. My wife is diabetic and suffers from very poor circulation in her extremeties, read: cold feet...always. This "carp" may very make her a bit more comfortable. Cheers! PS I love how the real word for "carp" gets turned into Scaffolding.. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot? oh er, hhahahaha

Only 90 Watts and no fan so it's quiet. The reviews say that that gets real warm instead of just blah warm.

For older people, especially with Varicose Veins or other circulatory ailments, products like this can increase circulation. It seems like a silly product, but for certain individuals, that increase in blood flow can decrease all-over body pains.

Devices like these are used in rehabilitation clinics all over the country, take that at face value.

You obviously don't suffer from poor circulation or you wouldn't suggest slippers. Hope you don't outgrow your "warm toes".

Believe me, I do and I had to make myself read through the info before "I want one"

tesla33 wrote:Google "PAD". You're welcome.

I Google'ed it. Here is what I found:

Your arteries are normally smooth and unobstructed on the inside but, as you age, they can become blocked through a process called atherosclerosis, which means hardening of the arteries. As you age, a sticky substance called plaque can build up in the walls of your arteries. Plaque is made up of cholesterol, calcium, and fibrous tissue. As more plaque builds up, your arteries narrow and stiffen.

Walking exercise

Exercising and walking regularly, for instance walking at least 30 minutes 3 times each week, may help improve your symptoms.

I would think hardening of the arteries is from bad eating habits and lack of exercise.

I'm not trying to make light of people who have medical conditions, I do realize there are some people who do have conditions which they have no control over. There are clearly some who could use some foot warming love.I am hoping more people will eat better and exercise.

Anyway, just my two cents and I now know about PAD =) Which makes me want to go for a walk.

You guys who bought these for your wives and mothers, you will be making them SOOO happy! Expect extreme gratefulness...

I'm sitting at my computer with my oldstyle Vornado and I'm in this cocoon of warmth in a cold house - too early to turn the thermostat up since everyone else is still in bed.

The fan is essential to move the air around your legs and upward. I use it while wearing shoes or heavy slippers and the heat penetrates nicely. Those of you who say to wear socks - do you walk around the house in Winter in just socks? I'm also very short and use the footrest even when it's not turned on.

This is a REALLY good item at a very good price.

I just bought 2. At this price they're worth it as a footrest alone. Great for under the computer desk at home or work. I'll just tell the family to keep their socks on when using.

ArrSea

Some narrow minded replies but whatever.

I could wear 10 pairs of thermal socks and my feet will stay cold - and good luck trying to get shoes over on layered socks unless you have clown shoes.

I have even taken my socks to the electric hand dryers to warm them up and when I first put them on, ohhh so nice & toasty but it quickly wears off.

I currently use a regular space heater which is kind of a waste because the rest of me is fine, it's just my feet that are freezing usually.

I'm quite tempted to get this.

I'm also with the person who said we need heated keyboards! I can't use my mouse or type with gloves on (I've tried). ;-)

Just ordered one for my mom. Great X-Mas gift for her. She's as cold blooded as a snake that's stuck above the frost line.

Kerig wrote:Wow, the sexist comment of the evening!

There's a difference between sex-linked traits and sexism. Women's metabolisms are generally lower than men's, so they are more susceptible to cold than are men -- and the body cuts off blood flow to the feet first when it's cold. (Then the hands, etc. Hence the old saying, "When your feet are cold, out a hat on.")

But everybody knows these things; you're just being reflexively, unthinkingly, condescendingly, and incorrectly politically "correct."

In for 2 - one for me, one for the wife...

If I load up on layers of socks, THEN my feet sweat and stink to high Heaven, and STILL feel cold! No THANKS! As for my wife, she may have some syndrome or such, hasn't been diagnosed. But she always has cold feet even when she is running the treadmill!

I bought one of these last winter from one of those linen and beyond box stores for twice the price. It's nice if you like a foot rest under your desk. The fan is about as loud as my computer fan-not noticeable on the floor. The unit shuts off automatically in 4 hours or you can flip the switch. The fan and heat element are not too strong. It takes 15 minutes to create a small buffer of warmth and a draft easily overtakes its heat. The fan works with or without heat. I don't feel the fan unless I remove my shoes-similar to the airlow from a laptop. I work in a basement and if I use a lap blanket and take my shoes off, it is ok - otherwise I don't get enough warmth with this. The bottom of my laptop gets warmer than this, so don't expect great heat from this - but it does what it says it does.

Listen up, all you warm-footed gents:

  • Most women have cold feet.
  • This is only $25 including shipping. Buy 2 and save shipping.
  • If you order this from Woot, it should arrive in plenty of time for Christmas.

Why not just have your cat sleep on your feet? Mine commandeers the bottom of the bed every night anyhow. Work as a great foot warmer =)

Ghost42 wrote: So personal foot-heaters like this one came to the rescue. They successfully warm those with reptillian blood without needing to turn the entire office into a sauna. And when we ran the numbers, it ended up being more energy efficient as well.

I laughed at this. "Reptilian blood." That's how I've been described w/ my poor circulation. In for one. Would've gotten my mom one, too, but she said she didn't want it. Shrug. Really excited. Even if the heating element doesn't work all that well, I'm petite so it'll come in handy as a footrest at the desk.

quirky0719 wrote:What are the surface bumps made out of? Hard plastic, soft plastic...?

I have one of these and I'd describe the bumps as hard plastic, basically the same as the rest of the outer shell. It would be nice if they were soft but they aren't. That said I still like the bumps. Their purpose seems to be to keep your feet from compressing over the tiny holes where the hot air blows out.
