It will be unusable for that. It takes the video signal, chops it up into chunks, encodes those chunks, and sends them to the computer. It usually has a 1-2 second lag. I've never seen a TV tuner card that doesn't.

No. You need a cable company box, or a CableCard device in order to decrypt the good stuff. Depending on your cable provider, a couple of channels may be sent unencrypted, but these are usually things like local stations, which you can get over the air anyway.

Would this work with the EYEtv software for a Mac? It says that the ATI USB Wonder 2 is supported: http://www.elgato.com/elgato/na/mainmenu/products/software/EyeTV3/product3.en.html . I want to pull the trigger but am not sure if it will work with the software I already have/

Depends on the connections on your TV and your PC. Most modern plasma's and LCD's have a "PC in" which is a D-sub connection, like the plug on a monitor. Some newer laptops have HDMI, which is the new standard. If you have DVI, there are DVI-HDMI cables/converters, as well as DVI-VGA converters, and if you're really scrambling, you could do VGA-component. Anything other than a HDMI-HDMI connection, you'll also need a 2.5mm headphone jack to RCA connectors, so you can have sound on your TV.

This is a TV tuner for a computer with Microsoft OS. It allows a computer to ACT like an HD TV receiver.

It is not a video signal converter for any game console.

Unless I'm missing something, this device has ZERO application with any video game console.

I'm in just because it has a remote control. I've been using a Hauppauge deal for a while now that has no remote and it's really annoying taking it out of full screen mode to change channels or sound. At $25 it's worth trying out.

I have a different (crappier) USB stick and the lag is significant enough to make video games unplayable.

Yes, and no.

You can watch over the air (broadcast TV without a cable) and no, you don't need an ATI video card.

What I would like to do, is to cancel cable completely, and just hook my desktop to the TV, and watch whatever HDTV channels are available free over the air on my TV, which I'll be getting via the desktop using this device. I've seen some of the lists of over the air channels available, and those are 95% of what I watch - I can always Hulu the rest. Is what I'm looking to do possible with this device?

Sorry but also what is the added benefit of having a QAM tuner. I am sort of a noob at this and was considering getting the Hauppage 950Q but wasnt sure if it was the added 45 dollars.

I don't know about this USB TV Tuner, but I know that my USB TV Tuner from Pinnacle was too laggy to play Guitar Hero for PS2 despite adjusting for the video lag in the game.

My suggestion: don't bother trying.

i have sub channels using this exact tuner and windows media center... u have to manually add them, but they are even listed in the guide now unlike before when they just had no guide listings for the subs....

possible... ive had issues with lag, but its def. feasible to record video from a console.. i tried this yesterday with this device, and i was actually trying to get dvd video... which went about as well as anyone can imagine... but the console video transmission itself was clean

Nope, the TV Wonder USB 2.0 is an older tuner. I think this one is 1-2 generations newer than that, at least. The USB 600 actually has 64-bit Vista drivers which hopefully (maybe?) would work in Win 7...

Digital Television is broadcast (for the most part) in MPEG-2, which is the older, less efficient standard that's used in DVDs (though HD, of course) What this means, I'm not sure. Either HD Broadcasts aren't super-high quality to begin with (quite possible) or this USB device squeezes it shortly before sending it to your computer so it can make it through bursts of USB speed unharmed.

That said, this'll probably do it fine.

I think I'm confused. This will let me put saved shows from the dvr to the computer? and will let my computer act as a dvr on my regular tv? What's the antenna for exactly? Sorry for my ignorance, lol. Thanks!

completely... that is what i use this one for... as long as ur video card can handle the output to ur tv there is no reason this cant handle the recording aspect... i love this device... havent had any issues with it. i use it with media center as a dvr... i would def recommend a media center remote for your pc.. or if you have an xbox 360, it is a media center extender, and you can do everything from it if the tv and pc are in dif rooms...

It has windows vista drivers and alot of those work in Windows 7. I just bought one so im hoping the Vista drivers work in Win 7.

Instead of buying this, you should just go buy an HD antenna and hook it straight to the tv. That will save your computer from being eaten up by this thing, and you can get rid of cable. The only thing you have to be sure of is that your TV has a built in digital tuner (most hdtvs over the last few years do, but not all).

Yes, this is exactly what I am doing now. The best day of my life was the day I called Comcast and told them to cancel me. Boooya!

I use dual-display so I can work on my PC while watching TV on the second display.

In fact, I'm doing that while I type this, and watching it on the 24" display I bought frfom woot.com a few months ago.

ok i have this tuner and am using it as we speak. i love this thing. the software it comes with works but not great. i have it set up with windows 7 64bit and using media center. you can pause, record, and rewind live tv. it records in hd so i don't know why that one guy/gal is saying that it won't.

the antenna it comes with worked great up until the hd transition happened. then i started having trouble with a couples of channels. i went and bought a new antenna from wal mart for $15 and ran an extension putting it right buy a windows. now every channel come in clear and i never have to adjust the antenna.

i highly recommend this product and no you don't need an ati video card to use this.

Ok, so I have a HTPC that I pretty much use daily. I'm considering getting this so I can use Windows Media Center as a DVR since we just have basic cable and no real DVR.

My biggest concern, the remote that comes bundled with it, can I use that to control Windows Media Center? Because that would be amazing!

I'm already in for one for the ability to finally start recording my shows, but the remote would be a huge perk.
