I cut the foam plugs in half, so that one plug made two earbud covers . . . the decreases the longitudinal amount of material you have to drill through. Then I did not actually "drill" so much as used an awl from a swiss army knife to create the hole.

If you're having trouble with the drill technique, I recommend picking up a leather hole punch. It's basically a "regular" hole punch with a hollow cylinder at the end. Squish the earplug and press down on the hole punch, and it will cut through perfectly.

The only time I check Woot seem to be the days when there is a good item already sold out. I need to change my habits

I received mine yesterday. I'd give them an average grade as earbuds. The noise reduction is not that hot. I actually like my razer m100 earbuds better for comfort, sound, and even noise reduction (although those aren't marketed specifically for that use, they just happen to do a pretty good job there).

I wore the Blockades this morning in the gym and still could hear other people's talking and radios much better than expected. I even carried on a short conversation with someone without having to remove them.

The volume control is a nice feature, and I really like the clip so you can adhere the cord to yourself.

These things are horrible. And I am usually not that picky when it comes to earbuds. The bass range is...well, not there. The noise isolation is...well, not there. And the over all sound is....well, Flat!

I almost feel like my Phillips and Skull candy ear buds are high end shures compared to these when I put them on afterwards.

FTL!!

I got these for me and my daughter's iphones. They don't work with Iphones without modifications to the plug. The way the iphone is designed does not allow for the plug to go down far enough into the phone. I cut the black plastic back an 1/8 of an inch on the earphone plug and WALLA! It works GREAT! Even in my Mercedes Convertable at high speed I can hear the person on the other end with no problem now. (course I still have to talk into the phone mic for them to hear me.) Not as good as my Bose noise cancellation headphones...but what is??? LOL

For the price...Glad we got 'em!

Just got them today. You have got to be kidding! No bass, no fidelity, pretty much as good as a tin can... just a bit more comfortable. What a waste of time and money. The Maximos from Woot kick butt all over these! These Blockade earbuds are a good gift for someone you do not care about.

malkav11

They're the first noise isolating earbuds I've ever owned, and as a non-audiophile they seem like a vast improvement over my regular earbuds, except in that they take a lot of getting used to comfort-wise.

I can't comment as to how they stack up against the competition.

Just plugged these in to my Sansa Fuze (also from Woot) and all I get is a tapping noise. No music at all.

Now that I have them plugged into my laptop playing Pandora... sound is about on par with the factory Sansa earbuds I had been using. Not great, but I was more interested in blocking out office noise (and the idiots that are incapable of using their phone's handset).

Good idea re: trimming the plugs. They're pretty uncomfortable as-is, but cutting off the first flange was an improvement.

ETA: It seems they will work if I pull the plug out about 1mm. Push it all the way in and it's tap-tap-tap. Not too wild about having to do even more mods to this...

ETA2: The bit of earplug I trimmed off gave me an idea. I turned it inside out and cut off the central channel, leaving a cup shape. I slid that over the plug and now it works like a spacer. I can plug it in as far as it will go without getting the tap-tap noise. MacGyver would be proud.

4 years, 35 woots and counting...

mine just came today. these are GREAT! i have a real tough time getting ear buds to stay in my ears, so i was surprised when these fit so easily. and yes, they do block out most of the noise around me at work.

slicksilver71

I cut the first round part of the earbud off and it made the noise isolation much, much better, and also increased the quality of the sound by a bit.

but yes overall i feel pretty jipped over these headphones..

Just got mine today 11/12/09. They work great. I have a BlackBerry Storm 9530. Comparing to the OEM earbuds that came with the Storm:
1)The Blockade's don't hurt my ears
2)The Blockade's don't fall out while running/biking
3)The Blockade's don't have the deep bass lows as the OEM buds but still pretty good bass.
4)Full volume is not as loud as the OEM buds
5)They block out surrounding noise very well. Just as good as the earplugs I used inside a textile factory.

I like them very much as earbuds, I only wish they had the built-in mic.

Overall, very happy with purchase.

These things are H O R R I B L E!!! Absolutely horrible. These are just like listening to a tin can with a string. What a complete waste of $20. Man, I want a refund. It's amazing to me that anyone would pay $40 for these on Amazon much less the $10 per here on Woot. These are not worth one single penny.

I am never buying earbuds from Woot again. This was the second and LAST time I have been ripped off on earbuds on this site.

nofaz

Got mine yesterday and I am kinda dissapointed with the bass response. With such a tight seal to the inner ear I expected a pretty tight bass note. It just isn't there. Great sound isolation though, and they do go into the ear quite easy. Since they sent extra tips I'm going to try cutting off the first section as suggested in an earlier post.

Don't accidentally put a non-existent address on your ship to. FedEx will tell you to keep looking for it. USPS will deliver it to a wall (http://bit.ly/4BkUBQ) and then give you an attitude when you question why. After they realize that they've delivered to a wall, they'll tell you it could up to 2 business days before someone contacts you. Yay!

ARE THESE SHIPPED VIA FED EX AND THEN US POSTAL SERVICE? DO I NEED TO GO TO POST OFFICE TO PICK UP? THEY HAVE BEEN IN TOWN SINCE THE 10TH.

These are the worst sounding earbuds I have used. Noise reduction would be great but what's the point if they sound so bad? No base response and bumping up the base with the equalizer didn't help much. Big disappointment.

Now, keeping in mind that I am no audiophile, and my price range on headphones never really peaks above $20 for a pair, I am all kinds of happy with these earbuds.

First off, I know they're not fantastic as far as sound quality is concerned but they are at least above decent.

The volume control and noise reduction are my favorite features though, as well as the actual shape of the bud, which makes them very difficult to fall out.

Granted I just got these today, I listened to my Sansa at just about max volume on a 30 mile trip on my motorcycle. Keep in mind, motorcycles are very loud, and still I could clearly hear the music.

I think you people who are so upset over this woot should really consider the price you paid for them. If you don't want cheap goods, then don't buy cheap goods. Simple as that.

But, as far as I'm concerned I couldn't be happier. They fit my application perfectly.

Just got my pair, and they're horrible. They're too quiet, they sound tinny, and they don't block out any sound. Too bad. Yes, I have buyer's remorse.

It wasn't buying cheap goods. It was buying something with good reviews that sells for $40 a piece on other sites. Believe me, if I had any idea it was going to sound like a 10 cent piece of **** I would never have purchased them.

It's obvious to me that too many people are just easy to please. This was my second endeavor into ear buds on Woot that people spoke highly of only to be severely disappointed.

I don't have disposable money like you do I guess.

mine arrived yesterday. one works fine. one doesn't work at all.

looking into what recourse i may have if any...

and it was my first woot too. how sad...

HOLY GOOD GODDAMN THESE ARE THE WORST EARBUDS I'VE EVER HEARD!!!

I hope, in the "let's-hope-not" chance that Woot offers these again, that someone see this. My god. I'm not an audiophile, I'm an audio engineer and I can honestly say that the only thing these buds are good for is if you cut the cable and use them as earplugs... but even then they're not effective. The sound is compressed, the dynamic range is nil, the bass is in Iowa, the highs are sitting under my rug. They must have an extremely high impedance because they're quite as can be. Totally inefficient drivers.

I want to stress this:
NEVER IN MY TWO YEARS OF WOOTING HAVE I EVER FELT COMPLETELY RIPPED OFF. But now I have. That was the biggest waste of $20 I've ever spent. I really should have just bought some JVC Marshmallows (which are the best <$50 earbuds on the market right now, and cost $19) and called it a day. Or lottery tickets. I would have been up then.

I've never wanted a refund from Woot, but good god if there was a time for one, this would be it.

At least now I know what to do with the two pairs I got:

Dude these suck... i just got them and unless you A) enjoy having your ears violated by something long and thick and B)have the hearing of a bat these are not for you. The fit is bizarre but effective i guess. They do block out ambient sound by virtue of the almost hermetic seal they form but they most go way deeper in the ear canal than any other ear-buds I've ever owned. I know Blockade is a hearing protection company so that may have something to do with my second gripe.... i believe in listening to music loudly..not as background sound for ambiance! These guys are at least 50% as loud as any other I've owned. I'd assume some by design (companies business) and some by parasitic losses in the little resistive circuit for the volume control.... all in all i guess good as backups (something like "oops cant find my real ones..." or "dang my first choice buds broke guess i gotta use the ear rapers")... that's my 2 cents!

PS "deafinoneear" love this review!! so funny! The link was hysterical too!

stevietd14

Got mine today!

THEY SUCK BALLS!

They are really really really quiet, and sound like pooooooop.
I want a refund on these pieces of garbage.
Woot! you are such a DINGUS! I'm going to massage your calf muscles so poorly, you'll scream in pain.

rav3nsfan

I agree with all the people that hate these earbuds. They tear the hell out of my ear. I took some of the suggestions from other wooters and cut the first node off the end. The only reason it helps is because there's one less node to rip your ear out with. Getting ear raped with only 2 nodes instead of 3 isn't much of an improvement. It makes me wonder if anyone from Blockade ever even tried these before selling them to the public. And the sound quality is just as bad as the comfort! They are dull, have no bass, and the volume is so low that the only way I can block out the noise around me is to force them as far in my ear as humanly possible... which again hurts.

I've been visiting Woot's website for sometime now and unfortunately this was the first product I ever purchased. I am very disappointed.

Woot....you need ur #$@$@$ kicked for selling this scaffolding!!! LoL these things are JUNK

Am I the only one not complaining about the quality of these headphones? Admittedly, they're 10 dollar headphones and usually for music while riding a motorcycle. I'm not a motorcyclist, but I may have gotten a whole new shipment from you guys because I love these headphones. Great $20. Thank you woot.

I'm more than happy to sell you both of mine for $12.50 plus shipping.
Used them for all of about 30 seconds.

This goes for anyone that actually likes these earbuds. Just PM me.

Well, glad you liked them. But they are terrrible. I guess if you use them riding on your motorcycle bad sound is unnoticable. And like you say, you've never bought a quality pair.

I bought these based on prior buying experience. I recently got the Maximo iM-490 iMetal Isolation Stereo Earphones from Woot. I recommend them, especially at the price. They are better than these "noise isolating" widgets. These yellow boogers are pointy and hurt my ears. As noted by others, the bass is non-existent. The sound is worse than an old AM transistor radio. Save your money. Get the Maximos the next time they come up. About the same amount of money, although only a 1-fer.

And unlike Pollyanna above, I can say yeah, sometimes I'm not happy with the Woot package when it arrives. Sometimes it's scaffolding. That's part of the deal. I don't have to be happy just cause I paid for it...
