How can I go about ordereing another set? I didn't realize we only get one shot at it.....

The same thing happened to me a while back. Just e-mail Woot and ask them to change your order; if the item isn't sold out, they'll take care of it for you.

Great for me! :D

Earplugs with the triple-flang design...http://www.etymotic.com/ephp/er20.aspx
I actually own a pair, they don't really muffle sound like normal earplugs.

Also I find it interesting that no one has even mentioned Shure or Etymotic...They both have a similar design to the earbuds on sale but considering their price point, probably sounds considerably better too.
I can't compare since I only have a pair of Shures, but I love them.

applesbananas wrote:These look like high-end earplugs. Since they're "isolating" would they work at all as a set?

Do you mean would they work as a set of earplugs instead of headphones? If so, yes they would, but it would be silly to pay $20 if all you want is a decent set of earplugs. You can buy the same earplugs at Home Depot or Lowe's for about $5 for 3 pairs, if all you want is the noise blocking.

The earplugs are pretty effective at blocking noise, and not too uncomfortable. I've been using them all the time to reduce the noise of a chop saw and a ramset.

Well, the review (http://www.webbikeworld.com/Earplugs/blockade-earbuds/)

says: feature a built-in volume controller, seen in the photo above, that does not require a battery

hope this helps

In for 1... er, 2. 4?

I have a pair of earplug-type headphones designed mainly for air travelers. Other bud earphones tend to fall out of my ears, but a design like this stays in place much better.

They work fine - I think the isolation aspect can make even cheap buds sound better. The foam falls apart over time and they get kinda gunky too, which is why you get spare earpieces.

I have a pair of these that I -ahem- borrowed from my wife.
They are very good at blocking noise - better than some noise-cancelling headphones I have, better than any noise-cancelling earbuds I have tried.
They are pretty comfortable, I have slept on a plane with these - but I fall asleep at the drop of a hat anyway.
The oval thing in the middle is a volume control, it does NOT require any batteries.
The yellow ear plugs are silicone, I've never had to replace them, they seem pretty durable. They are NOT foam. There is a tube of the black hard plastic projecting part way down the center of these, so these would be torture without the yellow plug covers.

dlcarrier wrote:Wow, I've been looking into buying these for a month or so, and here they are two for the price of one on woot. They are supposed to be great for use on a motorcycle; you can hook them into your comm system or your GPS receiver and simultaneously get the benefits of headphones and ear plugs.

If anyone wants to read some very thorough reviews, head over to webBikeWorld for an in depth review, or a comparison to other earplugs.

Excellent!! I was just going to ask that. The Skullcandy earbuds I have now occasioanlly fall out of one ear while I'm on my motorcycle. Drives me crazy and cant get it back in cause of my helmet. I'm definitely in for one. Thanks!

In for these as my 50th woot!

One set will work well for me in the foundry, and the other should work well for my buddy that paints cars.

How are these for working out?

I don't know if the volume control will fly up in your face or hit on the equipment(treadmill).

Sorry if this has been asked before?

Does it have a mic to talk while on iPhone? & does the volume control also control skipping songs, hanging/answering iPhone?

If it can do what current apple iPhone ear set does, I'm IN.

TIA

Portabello

I have these but ruined them in the washer. I paid more for one pair though than they are selling here for two. The only complaint that I have with these is that they could be just a bit longer in cord length. They work really good when you are mowing the lawn and want to keep the mower noise out.

Just volume control.

For $10 a piece it's probably a good buy. Especially given that people have paid upwards of $35 for one!

Do these work like the apple earbuds in that they will let you switch from music to a incoming phone call without going to the iPhone?

sanserino

These seem like a good deal for using on the airplane. They will take the incredibly loud noise of the plane and crying babies from 10 to about 2. They will be MUCH more effective over all frequencies than noise canceling units, as the NC types work only in the midrange. The volume control is a plus - the electronic control on 747s does not go down all the way.

However, it makes me a little nervous to think about people that are shooting guns and working in dangerous noisy factories wearing earplugs AND listening to music, so that they definitely will not hear someone shouting "Hey - Cheney has a loose Uzi" or "Watch out! The giant meat grinder is going berserk!"

So, the whole noise-canceling thing isn't that important to me, I just need to block out the wife watching #$%$(@# Rock of Love or something equally horrible on TV. I'm more worried about sound quality, though. I'm not some gold-plated Audiophile jackass, but I like to hear the bass and all the instruments and whatnot. The reviews seem to gloss over sound quality in favor of "Hot damn, I can hear music AND the lawnmower" - can someone who's used these further enlighten us?

Old woot: Sony NW-S706 4GB MP3 Player with Noise Cancelling Headphones - spectacular sound and pretty incredible noise cancelling. Power tools and airplane engines almost disappear. Use them with my chainsaw, only problem is focusing on the chain, not the music.

I've tried sound isolation but it does not seem at all effective to me, compared to the Sony noise-cancelling. If you can find one of the now discontinued Sony walkman noise-cancelling players in working order, I'd grab it. I still get around 30 hours play time on a charge, with the power-draining noise cancelling turned on.

I have fallen asleep in these numerous times, and although they don't completely recess into the ear, they're not painful after sleeping with them in for a few hours.

Also, the fact that they haven't managed to strangle me in my sleep is a nice perk.

jedij585

I had a pair and took them back because they did not fit in my ear. You have to have giant ear openings for them to fit comfortably. They also do not block much noise. Regular earbuds work much better.

Since I work in a high noise environment, I'm looking forward to giving these a try. Currently I'm using disposable ear plugs (provided by my employer) with a NRR of 19, as well as a David-Clark headset with a NRR of 24 (regulations require I wear double hearing protection in certain areas). This should help me hear our intercom system better than with the headset alone through all the background noise.

Wooted. I need another box lying around the house that has a woot I don't use in it!

winafew wrote:dB reduction is a relative measure, not one of absolute volume. If I remember, about 3 dB is about a 50 percent reduction. So 6 dB would be about 75 percent, and then 9 db would be about 87 percent, and so on. 24 dB is about as good as you can get with any type of normal earplugs, whether they also pipe in music or not.

dB is indeed relative. dBv is voltage, dBm are watts, etc. dBspl is what they are measuring. A 6dB increase is a 100% increase, or double volume. 24dB is a truly significant cut in volume as you would be reducing outside noise by a factor of four. Just my two cents. :D

havent tried headphones of this design so just keeping fingers crossed for good to better sound quality and COMFORT. I am not an all day music person but for the daily use, bad headphones for me are like shoes, you only notice them when they hurt.

I've never purchased anything from Woot before - I am getting these for my hubby who is deployed overseas to use on his off time.... Will them come in the manufactured packaging or will they be repackaged does anyone know? (Or how does Woot normally package stuff?)

Thanks!

ufoboy90

Can anyone comment on the audio quality?

Unless an item was refurbished I've always received it in the original packaging. These are new so you should be good.

These don't look terribly comfortable. I've got a pair of Skullcandy Full Metal Jacket earbuds that came with several silicone sleeves for a "custom" fit. I like how they have a really low profile once properly fitted into the ear too. They don't do a whole lot for noise canceling though. :\ Maybe I should get some of these and try them out since the price is cheap.

PS - If your earbuds get all full of earwax, use a little hydrogen peroxide on a cotton swap (those things you're supposed to use to clean your ears) to clean them up.

I've had these for about 6 months now and they are pretty good. The inline volume is always nice and they are alright at isolating the sound as well as staying in, but the sound quality is pretty bad. There is no real subwoofer so bass sounds terrible. I would put sound on par with the basic iPod ear buds, but for $15 they are a steal.

claybraswell1

I got these from Woot before, and what a hunk of junk. The "noise" blocker works to some extent, but the actual earphone pieces are terrible. They are uncomfortable, do not stay in, etc. I can't use them at all.

These work great on my motorcycle (with iPod or other device, both audiobooks or podcasts and music).

Blocks the noise so you can hear the music.

These do OSHA HEARING PROTECTOR level sound blocking, far better than any other "isolation" earbuds.

They come with extra flanges in case you lose one.

The flanges come in one size and their only drawback it they can irritate the ear canal (anything can do this) but I'm very picky and although I can feel them I can wear them on a long ride.

You can get replacement memory foam tips from http://earplugstore.stores.yahoo.net/ which will fit on these if you want more isolation.

I couldn't find these for a long while (It was at a farm supply store that generally has everything but was on a trip) and I'm ordering 3 sets.

For the curious, here's the numbers by frequency of the noise reductions:
