waacodemon wrote:Why are there replacement tips? How cheap are these? Anyone actually own a pair? I need a new pair to take to the gym...

I imagine if they get really dirty, like using them in the wrong orifice, you might want to replace them. But if you look closely those ear pieces are different sizes.

These look like high-end earplugs. Since they're "isolating" would they work at all as a set?

wlowman

They look like Livestrong ear buds, but everything I find on them reads 75th percentile or better.

Why can't you send items to Hawaii?? It is not one of the available states in the order option.

anyone know if 24 db is safe enough for shooting, or would I need something in addition?

He uses the precor two rows behind me and for the entire time he's on it, he's yelling and clapping his hands and making weird popping noises, it's absolutely unbearable.

Even with the sound cranked up I still hear this stupid poodle head popping and clapping and yelling, I can't take it anymore!!

You are there several times a week, so you must have developed at least a "hello" relationship with the staff. And I assume that you pay a fee to use this facility.

I'd say you have every right to ask the staff to tell him to knock it off. The gym isn't for one person, it's for all members, and this guy sounds like he's acting like he's at home at the expense of others.

If he's mentally challenged or 6' 5" and a linebacker (or he's the owner), then you probably need to find another gym or put up with it. Other than that, you don't need better headphones, you need to grow a pair and ask the staff to muzzle the poodle.

I'm in the market for a new set of ear buds, but as I have my right tragus pierced, it makes finding a comfortable set difficult. Has anyone else had this problem?

I hate rude posts like these. What so hard about answering a question again. Its not really a big deal.

I usually use Winchester ear plugs. They only offer negligibly better reduction(25dB NRR). It depends where you shoot too. On an indoor range people usually say both muffs and plugs are necessary, and if that's how you feel too there's no reason you couldn't wear these under a pair of muffs.

They'll do the job, but it ultimately comes down to what you feel comfortable/safe wearing. I would wear these because they're about as good in terms of reduction as my current plugs, and I'm not too fond of big ear muffs while shooting. Will that damage my hearing in the long run....maybe...but I'm not too worried about it.

Another thing to keep in mind, if you're shooting with a large group of people be cautious that the music doesn't distract you from shooting or being safe. Make sure you can still hear range commands, and if you're just shooting with friends make sure you can still hear them.

Anyway, if these things work I'll take em.

HAHAHAHA! Fantastic post simply because I can relate.

Whoa, how convenient. I need some new buds too. I'm in for 1 as soon as I cash my paycheck.

Little tip for people that have the first gen iphones, on most earbuds you can shave enough of the plastic off from the headphones to make them fit nicely. After a while you get good enough to even make it look like it was shipped that way.

Bought one pair of these from Amazon. They cost $38 there. I work in a wood shop and they cut the noise down about the same as an inexpensive pair of ear muffs. Sound quality is good, the volume controll is nice and there is a clip on it to hook to the back of a shirt to keep cords out of the way. Extra ear covers are to replace when dirty, if you are in that type of environment, like I am.

No battery in it. just volume control

In for two sets. One set for the spouse and me and the others for Christmas stockings... thanks Woot!

Actually, it doesn't say how long the cords are. So reading below sometimes doesn't answer your question.

I'm in for a pair of pairs. I have very small ear canals which makes most earbuds useless. The bugle looking thingies (technical term) just might work. My bride hates lugging my cans around in her carry on, so she should be happy too.

nemea456 wrote:Anyone use these to fall asleep with external noise? Are they comfortable enough to fall asleep with?

It comes down to personal preference. If you mean dozing on an airplane, these might be acceptable. If your tossing around in bed, I recommend you try foam earplugs(no cord).
AO Safety makes some that are very comfortable and rated at 29 or 30 db, I believe.

what about friction noise in the cord? my current in-ear buds have a deafening rustle every time the cord hits or rubs against something.

Yay! My 15 yr old loses and ruins earbuds weekly. Allowing for shipping time, the four I ordered should get us through December! LOL!

Score! I had been waiting for the Maximo IM-490's to get posted again (I missed out last time while reading reviews) but these look to be even better for my purposes. I'm a drummer and need a set of noise-cancelling like this so I can drum along with mp3's and have the acoustic (ambient) drum noise deadened so it doesn't drown out the music. 2 for 1? PERFECT.

duckcake wrote:Replacement tips in case someone hasn't cleaned out their ears in a while.

Soaking tips (foam or rubber) in hydrogen peroxide overnight will make them good as new, no matter how much earwax is caked on there. The fizz dissolves the wax into nothingness. I use that technique for regular earplugs too, works fabulously.

According to this review http://www.webbikeworld.com/Earplugs/blockade-earbuds/ that someone mentioned, there is no battery required for the volume control.

Our kitten has decided that her new favorite game is chewing through electronics cords (2 headphones, 3 laptop chargers, 2 ethernet cables, and a phone charger, all in a week), so I'm in! I have my eyes set on the Sony NC-60, but refuse to invest in quality headphones till the cat is done teething. Good timing, Woot!

The earbuds are the exact same style as the ear plugs I use at work, and the ear plugs stay in nicely and are comfortable so hopefully these are close to, or the same as, them.

Amazon has these for $34.97 and 4/5 star overall review

Before you buy these, ask yourself if you really, truly, need more cheap headphones. How many pairs do you already have?

Do these suffer from the "fingers-in-your-ears" effect?

ElephantNest

I ordered one set, but now want another set. It won't allow me to place another order, only saying "Your acount has already placed this order" or something like that.

How can I go about ordereing another set? I didn't realize we only get one shot at it.....

I love these earbuds for mowing the lawn and working around loud tools. Keeps the outside noise out so you can hear what you want without having to crank the volume to the max.

Payed a lot more for my single set, so ordered these to have as backup.

I use these with my IPOD on long plane trips (8 hours)and don't notice any difference from my regular earbuds in battery life.

When I shoot (357 / 9mm) I use standard ~32db ear plugs, and I don't push them in all the way. I don't like the full db reduction of hearing protection; more to just take the edge off the bangs. Probably not recommended, I know. Some ranges require doubling up with plugs and muffs, as well.

It pretty much comes down to your range rules, if applicable, and your comfort level with noise.

I use these at my gym and it completely eliminates the loudspeaker music they're playing, and about anything else going on.
