Items that are refurbished are things that were on display at stores or used as display models. They can also be items that were bought and returned for whatever reason. Once something has been bought and opened it cannot be resold as new even if it is in proper working condition.

Before it is sold with the title "refurbished" it is sent back to the manufacturer and they replace all the major components and sell it as refurbished.

bduchouq

Refurb = pot luck with the battery (depending how long/how hard the previous owner ran it).

See my earlier comment; mine caught a mouse and drug it back to the docking base. It appeared that the mouse was alive before being cleaned.

I cannot vouch for the extended warranty company SquareTrade but I would definitely purchase a warranty. I had another model of Roomba replaced within the first year and is being serviced again. I love the Roomba, hate the short battery life and happy that I purchased the extended warranty on my first Roomba.

As far as noise...yes Roombas are loud but that is only because you are doing something else while "someone else" (aka the Roomba) is vacuuming for you. The same would hold true if your maid was vacuuming with your manual vacuum cleaner while you were watching tv.

just bought 2, giving each to my mom and mother in law for christmas. I got the 510 and Dirt Dog combo off woot a month ago and love them both, especially the dirt dog this time of year (sucking up all the leaves in the garage)!

but those were in New condition. I hope this one doesn't come with any noticeable markings on them indicating refurbished. A red R on the bottom (like some have mentioned) wouldn't be bad. I thought about purchasing the SquareTrade warranty, but it would only cover $129.99 worth of parts and labor costs, since that's what the refurbbed Roomba cost. It makes sense, but I can picture getting a call from my mother in law saying "the Roomba's broke and needs $200 in repairs, so it's going to cost $90 with shipping to get it fixed." add in the $20 I'd spend for the warranty and we're pretty much right back to the cost of the thing in the first place.

Roombas, always Roombas
When will they sell a Scooba?

Occasionally mine will get stuck on the fringes. It does stop before any damage is done. Unless you have a fragile rug, it shouldn't' be a problem. I just move my smaller rug with fringes, my door mat, to a different room when I run the Roomba.

Wow, 5,000 units and about $10 profit per unit. Not Bad for a days work. Good Job Woot!

I think you have 10 days or two weeks to decide. Check the squaretrade site.

Roomba is a dry vacuum/sweeper. You'll want the Scooba for mopping.

Cool! I did not know that. I will look into that.

omnipotentq wrote:But a beautiful magic. Each time I see one of these on Woot, I get just a little bit closer to buying one. The floorplan in my house makes it....difficult, to say the least. (lots of small rooms with doors and doorjams that would make vacumming with this thing impossible)...le sigh.

You should make the jump next time. I have been using these for years and love them. You obviously have to keep picked up or pick up before you leave. I currently have 4 and I have three that run loose on the first floor of my house to handle ~3000sq ft, the last one can handle the whole upstairs since my dogs are not up there. They get everything clean. I have two very big dogs with LOTS of hair so I needed an extra one just to keep up with the hair on the carpet in my bedroom. Though the two were rated for the sq footage they couldn't handle it. I bought extra walls let them start at different opposite ends of the main part of the house and let them do their thing. I found this worked way better than segregating each one in a specific area. I bought extra walls for the bedroom doorways the Roomba goes in those after the main area is done, otherwise they just wander the whole house. I run them usually every other day, about as often as I had to vacuum when I used to do that manually. Try to do it when I drop my son off for school so I come back and its all clean and usually everyone is back on a home base of their choosing.

Good luck -Alysa

It will make it up there with little problem.

flexblade wrote:I bought a Roomba back in August and because I heard the batteries went bad for some, I purchased a replacement on eBay for $35. Unfortunately and ironcally, yesterday a house guest opened the bedroom door and let the Roomba get out (why didn't I use the virtual wall?). He picked up the Roomba and dropped it and now it does not dock anymore.

So today I bought two, a replacement and one for a gift.

HE KILLED ROOMBA!

We also got our first roomba from woot. We love it, not the thing for the perfect housekeeper but if you like things to just be kept tidy and do your heavy cleaning once a week it is great. We called ours Rosie. Hoping to get a second one for upstairs.

We have a large 8x10 floor rug with normal length fringe on the ends and the 530 has no trouble in the transition from hardwood onto the carpet, even if it has to go directly over the fringe. No catching or snags so far and we've had it about 6 months. Run it about once daily…great machine.

We bought the 530 on Woot about 6 months ago and it was a refurb, but it came in all the manufacturer's original packaging and looked brand new. It has worked flawlessly and we love it! We have a 4 yr old and a 1 yr old who have given it some pretty hard punishment and my 4 yr old has even dropped it on the tile floor. Still works fine under these strenuous conditions!

Was informed by email on 11/2 that I missed the sell out. So - I had to cancel the warranty from Square Trade - what a hassle! This morning what appears on my credit card but a charge for the Roomba Woot deal. Does my Roomba show up in my Woot purchase history???? NO

What is the story Woot?

Their stuff ships fast sometimes. I purchased the Roomba 560 during the last Woot-Off. It came up about 2:15 in the morning on the 27th. It shipped on the morning of the 28th and I had it about 4:00 in the afternoon on the 30th. Can't beat that with a stick, specially considering it went from Dallas to the Chicago area in just over 3 days. It made it just in time to help clean up the Halloween mess.

It's 5 o'clock somewhere.

cmmichels

Wishing status would change to "shipped". My Roomba Puck died last weekend so this is timely. All the battery tricks didn't work - neither did replacing the battery so I think he is done.

Just wanted to note - after a few mins of being confused - that when doing the order number/reference search you have to provide all your shipping address details in order for FedEx to figure out which order it is. At first I was getting stuck without an "account number" but that's not necessary if you fill in the other fields.

Just got mine - box looks new. Shipped in a roomba box, my apartment complex took the liberty of writing my apartment number on it in sharpie in several places.. so.. not so good for gifting, but it's mine so what's the dif? Just noting that for gift-giving apartment dwellers.

Going to plug it in and give it a whirl shortly. Will update.

In the box..

Roomba
1 Virtual Wall (needs 2 D-size batteries)
User Manual and Quick start guide
Spare yellow filter
Home base and power dealies
15% off coupon at the irobot store.

On the packaging - looks like new as far as that is concerned. All plastic wrapped and sealed. The roomba itself shows a few minor signs of wear/tear. The front caster wheel has some blemishes that are entirely cosmetic which makes it look like it's been used, but otherwise the little bot is spotless. I think the other two bigger wheels have been replaced along with the whole underside chassis and the spinning brush as none of those show any signs of wear.

The underside is red, which I seem to recall is not the best underside chassis and can be pretty easily replaced to the newer version - probably using that 15% off coupon.

Going to plug it in and see how it works

And it works.. but it wont dock at the docking base.. can't even manually put it there and get the contacts to register the connection. It charges fine from just the power cord thing though.

Off to email iRobot.
