I got this the last time Woot had it. Suffered buyers remorse when a few weeks later they did 2 (the pet one and the regular) for a prce that was pretty close.

That being said, I LOVE this and I'm seriously considering getting another one for my first floor.

Works great on the carpets and rolls over transition slips without any issues.

My wife gets a kick out of how it does things itself, but I noticed that if you are blocking the IR transmitter on the home base in anyway (even on the sides), the Roomba can't find it's home and just runs around in circles.

GPS Roomba Hack anyone?

I was really concerned about buying a refurbished Roomba but I was not disappointed a bit. I got this very model of Roomba from Woot months ago refurbished and it looked and performed like a new machine.

we bought one from costco and returned it. it works pretty good but couldn't really use each and every night hassle free since you had to do major pickup before turning it on.

I get what you're saying, but in order to vacuum, you have to pick things up from the floor -- no matter what device you're using

We have a toddler who destroys our house every day. After tossing toys back in the playpen, turning on the Roomba (this model, actually) is all I have the strength for. Also, this gets around cords with ease. Highly recommended

I have a bar in my basement, where I would primarily use this, would the Roomba be able to navigate the bar stools, or would they have to be something I would have to move prior? Anyone have any experience with this?

I bought this refurb on a previous woot. I have it running right now. And the thing is worse than a little kid. It finds every little nook and cranny. And down in the basement, there are all sorts of nooks and crannies I need to block so this little sucker doesn't go into areas it shouldn't. On the upside, I am currently vacuuming the basement while typing this.

Also, I never vacuumed enough as it is. Now I turn this thing on at least once a week and my floors are much cleaner than they have ever been.

You're not supposed to watch it. You're supposed to turn it on when you leave and come back to clean floors.

Yes. From the Squaretrade website:

How long do I have to buy a SquareTrade Care Plan?
For eBay purchases: You have 30 days from the eBay item end-time to purchase a SquareTrade warranty.

For new items bought from retailers: You have 11 months from your purchase date to buy a SquareTrade warranty, but we recommend acting sooner as ADH protection is only available 30 days from the purchase date.

For refurbished or used items bought from retailers: You have 90 days from your purchase date to buy a SquareTrade warranty.

If you're not sure if you'll keep the item, we have a 100% refund policy in the first 60 days (and it's prorated after that), with no re-stocking fees like some retailer warranties. If you return the item, just call us or log-in to My Warranties and cancel your warranty for a full refund!

I've had one of these (same model) for two years and have been very happy with it. However, the battery only lasts about 15 minutes now, so it's probably time for me to get a new one (since the battery alone is about $90)!

Anyone know a cheaper source for a new battery?

I don't believe it is rated to clean daughters.

Depends on how big the openings are on the bottom of your barstools. Most likely, you should put them up on top of the bar or somewhere else so that it's a non issue. Or just let it run and then spend 18 seconds with the real vacuum hitting the areas that the Roomba can't get into.

The best sources seem to be: if you're still under warranty, complain by phone to iRobot and they will send you a new one.

Once your warranty is over, you can buy third-party batteries for pretty cheap, but reliability seems to be questionable (see this item and related reviews on Amazon, for example).

Apparently, the battery is just 12 sub-C NiMH batteries, if you want to make one yourself.

Perhaps if you did the same for your man every morning he would be.

This vacuum is wonderful. I've bought 6 of them - one for myself and 5 for other people that asked for one. Gives me alot more time to woot!

How does this model do with standard fringe at the ends of rugs? I have a 8x10 kilim rug with typical fringe and don't want my rug destroyed. I'm completely fine with picking up other articles (clothes, magazines, cords, etc).

Thanks

Is it sloped or is it like a cliff?

I bought one for my daughter for this Christmas the last time around and the more I looked at it, the more I wanted to keep it myself. The first one is still in the box (such willpower) so I don't know if I like it or not but I went ahead and ordered another today anyway so now we'll both be happy - I hope!

Is it compatable with 15 month-olds? I'm ready to pull the trigger, but images of my toddler playing roomba-discus with this can't be shaken from my mind. Will it float in the toilet? Can it be bounced down the stairs? Will it dodge sippy-cup launchings? All things I wrestle with before I make my first WOOT.

Love Roombas, but have to be honest- they do have a fairly short life, even with diligent cleaning. I originally bought mine off eBay and sadly in less than a year it was basically worthless and iRobot would not honor the one year warranty because it came off eBay. So then I went and bought a brand new one at Target(did I mention that I love them?) and before my one year warranty expired I basically had to have them send me a new one. And then the battery life was almost nothing, so they sent me a new battery. Now it has been a full year and the replacement robot still runs, but the replacement battery is almost shot- I only get about 30 minutes out of it! I would buy again brand new with a one year warranty- they sell at Target for about $200, and then if there are problems down the line in say 7 months, they will replace it.

Customer service at iRobit was A+ for my Target Roomba.

Says it picks up spills. But, it doesn't say dry spills only, so can I assume it's a wet/dry vac and will p/u soda?

I guess there's a reason refurbed Roombas are so common on Woot

Looking at reviews at Amazon and Target...it looks like the side brushes consistently break off. Roomba often doesn't have new ones. Plus the brush point of attachment (metal to plastic) is poorly engineered so even if you can get new brushes the new ones aren't going to stay on very long.

I've been very tempted by these for so long, but I think I'll wait a little longer. I just can't afford to a replacement Roomba every 12 months.

Ok, ok I took the plunge. Before today, I've only ever bought a $19.95 flashdrive.

It's a proud day for me. I'm hoping it cleans as well as everyone seems to say, however I suppose at the very least my cats and I will get some entertainment value out of it.

Thanks, Woot!

I don't own a roomba but am thinking about getting this one. Anyway to answer your question
http://hubpages.com/hub/Roomba-510-Review says,
"the brush is definately softer than the older 400 series (or even a normal vacuum) so it should not have a problem with scratching most wood and tile surfaces."

I bought a Roomba back in August and because I heard the batteries went bad for some, I purchased a replacement on eBay for $35. Unfortunately and ironcally, yesterday a house guest opened the bedroom door and let the Roomba get out (why didn't I use the virtual wall?). He picked up the Roomba and dropped it and now it does not dock anymore.

So today I bought two, a replacement and one for a gift.

Hi, I just bought this but I will also be using it in Europe, where they have 220v - does it work only on 110v? I guess if so I'll be able to buy a voltage converter.

I've never understood why people get so freaked out about cleaning the brushes on a Roomba - regular, people-pushed vacuums need to have the brushes cleaned also. A metal dog comb (that would be a comb made of metal intended for use on dogs, not a comb made for use on metal dogs) makes quick work of brush cleaning on any vacuum.

The ability to go under the sofa and under the bed is one of Roomba's most endearing features. Watching my dogs glare at it is always fun.

I want to know if a refurbished model is still alright and what the quality is?

I just made a purchase and did not get an email confirmation (I checked my spam folder). It doesn't show up under my purchase history. I hate that I can't contact anyone because I went and purchased a 2 yr warranty. What if my order didn't go through and I don't get this deal and I am left with a 2 yr warranty on no product.

sgoman5674 wrote:One problem though is the small size of the "dust bin".

Once you register the roomba, you get a %15 discount from the irobot store. I used that to get the larger collection bin (no filter), and it holds a LOT of dog hair.
