The manual seems to be more extensive -- indicates copying from negatives. Maybe it's just the software Arcsoft provides with it.
[raises hand.] I have a question: How many of these Axe samples do you think woot has? Seriously, i could rub down a dozen guidos over here.
Who has drawers full of "non-glossy photos"?????????
This does not work with Vista, do not even try, nobody will tell you why, it just doesn't work
The H/M official description does not mention non glossy...
is this basically a scanner?
I bought one of these last year and it was a waste of money. The pictures come out incredibly dark and if you try to lighten them they just become so grainy you can barely recognize faces. If you want to make great digital copies of old photos, put your digital camera on a tripod and point it straight down on the photo you're trying to reproduce. Don't bother with this device.
Ive got this unit (vupoint) 12/08.. paid 80 bucks at b b beyond w 20% discount... scan (picture of a picture) quality is average or just above average. It says on the box that i got 32bit vista and xp..not sure if they have updated since 12/08 for 64bit vista or win 7. I bought it for my vista 64bit but hooked it up to my xp pro machine and was going to return it bc it wasnt 64bit compat (didnt attempt to hook it up even) but a friends mom offered to buy it for what I paid, after I scanned the stuff i wanted to with XP ;), so I sold it to her. The software is basic but does allow for you to change some quality settings. 3 average picture size slides to place your pictures in and press the button and scan them. I found these pretty easy to use and vs a flatbed scanner this is way quicker. prob do twice as many in the same time. I also took smaller pictures and "cornered" them in the bigger slides and scanned and cropped it with my own software, but be careful as someone mentioned your pictures can fall inside the unit if they are smaller than the inside of the slide...so just pay attention with your smaller pics and it will be ok. Build quality is just below average and would easily break if dropped etc.. so make sure to keep the box and stuff for storing it between scanning. This thing has no weight to it. If you really want great quality and dont care about scanning them slower with a flatbed then thats the way to go (dont forget you can also send them off to be scanned for a price but they can get lost in the mail or whatever). If you or your parents (decent gift idea bc its so easy) want a quick easy way to do it this is ok at this price. It wasnt really worth the 80 bucks i paid and I would not have kept it for that price. But for half that, it might be a great gift idea for a parent who isnt as scanner and computer stuff savvy who has time to just scan a million pics at average quality with the touch of a button. hope this helps someone
HAPPY HALLOWEEN WOOTERS!
im curious... since we're turning our clocks back an hour tomorrow, will the next woot be at 11 central time (with the time changed) or still be at midnight and change it at 2 AM or something?
End of DST...cmon give us two woots.
Anyone find drivers for Vista 64bit for this?
Bought the recently offered Slide & Negative scanner (think it's more of a camera, actually) and am having a lot of fun re-discovering many old memories. So I'm gambling on this one too. If this is as entertaining, for the price, it'll be worth it.
Love It! I read after my purchase that it would only scan non-glossy photos. I was worried the whole time I waited for my scanner to arrive. It arrived today and within minutes I started scanning all photos even glossy ones. Being real careful, I am even able to scan old photos that are 3 x3 from the 60's Woo Hoo. Thanks Woot!

I could use drivers also
Mine has not shipped yet. Does anybody know the reason for the delay?
I've read most of the reviews. A lot of comments were noted that the unit does not work. You would think all you have to do is install the driver, the software, restart the PC & push the copy button....Not so. You have to READ the instructions carefully. That was my mistake. For all those folks considering buying this- its pretty good once you figure out how this thing works. Follow the detailed set of instructions appropriate to your operating system. They duplicate the instructions. In order to operate this unit you have to operate it from within their software known as PhotoImpressions. Once you’re in it, click "get Photos" then select "Acquire from Photo Scanner" then follow the directions from the manual. Hope this helps.
Has anyone heard where our photo converters are? I haven't heard anything at all and already received something I bought later than that.

I still do not show on the receipt that the item has been shipped. No tracking Number. No Digital Converter
Ditto last comment. No shipping date on mine yet either. Any knowledge out order #28065425 there?
No love here either. Mine still says: your order is in. you're all set now.
It's been over 5 days and I still have no shipping confirmation. You guys got yours already?! watching the films?

Mine isn't showing shipped. Any idea when it will ship?
Same here as many of the above. Have never had to wait so long for prior Woots to ship? Any word yet?
Jamezz93 wrote:Anyone know how well these work? And what sort of files they convert into?
It's a complete waste of money. The software is buggy, the quality is terrible. Every picture I've tried to scan came out horribly grainy and with very poor color. The software that comes with it is basically useless, and keeps bugging you to "upgrade" to a more expensive package. Basically, it's an expensive (and overly large) paperweight.
still waiting on mine. This seems to happen everytime I order from WOOT. Poor, poor customer service
No change in the order status since day one. order 28125512 What is the status? Has this shipped? If not, then when?

I have sent you a private message.
Ditto out here in CA -- still haven't received and still no change in status. Was hoping to have for a family get-together this weekend to scan a bunch of old photos

Finally it showed up today with NO tracking
Never did get a shipping confirmation, but it showed up yesterday!
Woot should be ashamed at selling this peice of junk
[agree
trying to get this thing to work...but I think part of the problem may be using XP in VMWare Fusion on the Mac...drivers install ok...but when I go to get images...there is no live view and unable to click buttons!
WORTHLESS! THIS CONVERTER WILL NOT WORK WITH 64 BIT COMPUTER, ONLY 32 BIT. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE IF WOOT HAD MADE THIS CLEAR BEFORE I BOUGHT ONE.
