Doe this work for old photo Slides, not that I want to relive my Wedding Day LOL

I got one last year for Xmas from Hammacher-Schlemmer. It has NEVER worked, no matter what I tried. I am about to throw it away. Also, note it doesn't work with MAC - software not yet available.

That's exactly what it is, but if you know any senior citizens who want this sort of thing, it's a pretty good deal. Sky Mall sells them for $99.95 plus shipping ($16 to my zip code).

Will this work in Windows 7 (32 or 64)?

It works great. Have had mine for almost a year. .jpg.tiff and just about any onther graphic file that you might want.

HolyMythos wrote:In layman's terms, what does this exactly do? Take a picture of a picture?

Yeah - that's basically what it does. It's a 5MP digital camera that uses LCD lights inside the device. I bought this earlier this year and and pretty pleased with it. It converted my old photos into digital images which I can save and share on Facebook. The picture quality is pretty good, better than I expected. The only thing I don't like too much is you can only copy photos that fit in the three photo holders it comes with. If you photo is not one of those 3 sizes it's difficult to copy because they fit into the slot vertically and they pretty much fall out and inside the device. Other than that though, I'm pleased except for the fact I bought it elsewhere at a great discount for about $80.

Why not just buy a scanner/printer/copier for the same amount of money?

HAMMACHER STUFF IS WAY OVERPRICED TO BEGIN WITH. BUY A SCANNER/COPIER/PRINTER FOR THE SAME PRICE!

Wonder if it will work on Mac using Vuescan scanning software?

I am sure that's why no one mentioned the Watergate Hotel. To be safe, people not in the know could have said "Watergate Complex" and not mentioned incorrect aspects of what's depicted. LOL. So there.

It's funny to see a little bit of Rosslyn in the background, with NOTHING on it...!

Anybody know if it works with Vista 64 bit or perhaps a patch to upgrade it?

FlyingPilot

Yes, it's a fixed focus, 4 element glass lens camera inside the box. You are taking, literally, a photograph of a photograph.
Also, about the glossy photo restriction--your photograph is illuminated by a white LED light bar. If you are okay with seeing a reflection of this light bar, then, by all means, use glossy photos!

This is a digital camera that takes photos of prints!!! THAT'S ALL THAT IT IS. And it's not even a good digital camera.

I'd be all over this if it ran natively on a Mac. Oh, why this over your printer's scanner? Speed. Alas, I'll pass. (I don't run Window's stuff on my Mac, even tho I could.)

I really got excited when I saw this product, but then I read all the horid details. Not for glossy photos, not for negatives and not good for slides. Hmmmmm, let's see, I have thirty years of slides and 35mm black & white and color negatives and most of the old photos are glossies. Sounds like this is a real high tech photo dud to me!

Save your money and pop for even an inexpensive HP or Epson flatbed. More flexible with photo size and they do negatives and slides as well.

I am correct in assuming this is not mac compatible

Uh oh: Database Bug At Woot Leaves Reader Wary Of Ordering

"Robear wanted to order from shirt.woot, but something strange happened when he went to register. After choosing a username and entering his e-mail address, he noticed that all of the forms were pre-populated with another customer's information...including that user's credit card information. He contacted Woot to try to find out what could have happened, but Woot either hasn't figured it out yet, or just isn't responding."

Any chance this could work with a mac? Yes, I KNOW what it said and I read RTFM'd, asking if anyone knows ACTUAL compatability or convertability? Merry Samhain All!

You know what's better than using a third rate scanner for photos? Or even a first-rate scanner? Sending them off to a third party vendor to be scanned and retouched by people who do it for a living.

I've used ScanCafe for about 300 photos. So far, they've done a job at least as good as I could have done if I scanned each photo on a good flatbed scanner and then in photoshop spent ten to twenty minutes on each photo adjusting and touching up. And they cost between 25 and 30 cents a photo, depending on if there's a sale going on (I always wait for sales).

If anyone is interested in how some really ancient photos turned out, I have a flickr set of them:

User review below the Youtube Video:

This device is a piece of junk.

It only works right with non-glossy photos.

The photos sometimes *fall into the device* so that you have to disassemble it to get them back.

The color is always off, usually shifted more toward blue or brown.

There is no support for 64-bit systems.

It has a very limited range of compatible image sizes.

I have not seen a single positive review from any consumer who owns this - only from paid reviewers.

AVOID this piece of garbage.

ckeilah wrote:Can it scan negatives?

I doubt number this will scan negatives. However, a few years back I bought a Canon Pixma MP760 and it's done a fine job on both negatives and slides. The process is slower than I'd like, but quality is more important to me than speed.

He actually sold some of those for that price, looks like he got a bad feedback one of them as well. - Probably some stupid ass scammer that wanted one for free because they didn't realize how bad they suck before they got it. Or it's possible the buyer broke it right off the bat and now they are messing with the guys. Looks like the seller took it on the nose. LOL

I'm gonna steer clear, although it does looks profitable. buy 3 then sell 3 after all is said and done with the shipping gouge and all that - double your money.

I did it with those energizer flashlights the other day. got to keep one for myself and still made a profit! sweet deal eh? Oh yeah sept I don't gouge people for shipping -

way worth it. :O)

These devices are utter scaffolding. Yes - they will take a digital picture of your old photo - but it's like saying a Yugo will get you from point A to point B just as good as a Honda Accord. You can pick up a basic all-in-one (scanner/printer/etc) at Best Buy or Staples for under $80 that will scan any image including glossy prints much better than this unit. A friend of mine picked up one of these and had me come over to help her get it to work. The "best case" results were simply awful for anything other than uploading lo-res images to Facebook. You can get pretty much the same result by making a jig out of a shoe box and using your existing digital camera to take the picture on macro

Don't waste your time or money...

Your link goes to some page called flicker, flicker requires that you have a yahoo email account, yahoo - like aol is severley invasive and has all sorts of BS to infect your computer system. I even have some thoughts that it is linked to some terrorist groups and that they are collecting data through these sources from millions of "blind to the facts " Amaricans.

so - i didn't get to see the nude pictures your Grandpa took of your Grandma on their first date.

Who cares?

Plus if anyone is collecting our data for world domination, it's certainly going to be Google.

Worst product ever. I bought one during a woot off a while back. The pictures are totally washed out, like they were run through the dishwasher then dried. Also, it basically just takes a picture of a picture (badly), and the image that it creates includes the edge of the frame that holds the original picture in the machine. Would not buy again.

Will this work with a Mac?

It is terrible, period. And I am not terribly picky about my scans.

Lose the CD? Go look for drivers at H/S.Good luck with that. It's huge, feels like it would break or get misaligned internally easily, and it is ugly as sin with a bunch of trays laying around as well.

Then I buy that Eton crank radio during the woot-off and see it for about half the price at Fry's the next day. Trusting my Woot less and less.

With very little effort you can turn this into a great little device.

- For example - crack the lid open, rip and throw out the insides and you have a great index card box - for recipe cards or for craft ideas like this one

- Drill a hole on top of it. Fill it up with sand. Seal the hole and you have an awesome paper weight or door stopper.

- Drill Hole on top. Pour and fill with concrete. Let it dry. Grab it by the attached cord swing it over your head and you let go of it. Use as a weapon or practice for Olympics.

- Other uses that require more work: gut the insides, replace with bulb and socket - turn it into an industrial-themed lamp.

Alternatively take the money you would spend on this and (a) give it to someone that could use it (b) buy some wine or (c) burn it.

C and buying this are synonymous.

Just bought this from buy.com for 59.99 a few days ago. Was going to buy the Woot and request RMA 'til I did the math. What looked like a $20 difference is more like $5 after paying woot shipping, woot tax, and return shipping to buy.com--so when did Woot start charging tax?
