CommunityWootsPhilips 32" LCD HDTV

Imrahil

Amazon has it at 4 stars and $411. It appears that the biggest complaint is that the remote is a bit cheesy.

The mount should run you in the neighborhood of $35 for a low profile.

No PC(VGA) input either. I guess I will never be able to watch my PC on this TV. It sure is too bad that this doesn't have 1, 2, or even 3 possible HDMI ports that I could use either.

And you would be???

Hey, if you own a sports bar, this is the time to capitalize. After a few consumables, your clients won't be able to tell the difference anyway.

That's good for a 60" or larger, but at only 30" you can't see the difference....

Not a clue which version of pixelplus this one is though.

from wikipedia:
Pixel Plus, is a proprietary digital filter image processing technology developed by Philips, who claims that it enhances the display of analogue broadcast signals on their TVs.

Pixel Plus interpolates the broadcast signal to increase the picture size by one third, from 625 lines to 833 lines. It also doubles the horizontal resolution, although each horizontal line is analogue.

Other features include motion interpolation, a processing technique that interpolates (or creates) video fields (or frames) by analyzing fields (or frames) before and after the insertion point. This process is primarly focused on film based content which is filmed in either 24fps or 25fps. The motion interpolation function of Pixel Plus is an alternative to 3:2 pulldown processing with is the standard process of converting film to video.

In 2005, Pixelplus 2 was launched. This version was the first to be able to perform motion reinterpolation on 480p and 576p material.

In 2006, Pixelplus 3 was launched. This version was the first to be able to perform motion reinterpolation on 720p and 1080i material, except for US products.

In 2007, Pixel Perfect HD Engine was launched. This version was the first to be able to perform motion reinterpolation on 1080p material, and introduced 720p and 1080i motion interpolation in US products.

According to Woot, this TV has "Pixel Plus HD for better details, depth and clarity" so it must be the 2007 version.

Panel resolution: 1366×768p, which means it is 720p, NOT 1080p. If it were 1080p it would have a resolution of 1920x1080.

In other words, a lower resolution. As others have pointed out, though, for smaller TVs like this one, the difference between 720p and 1080p may not be all that noticeable. But many manufacturers are now offering 1080p in TVs that are 32" and below and for larger sizes, 40+ inches, 720p is being phased out in preference for 1080p.

We paid about $82 total cost on Ebay for one that would hold 150 pounds and would extend out 21" and would tilt (this was for a tv larger than the one offered today). There are less expensive mounting brackets for smaller tvs that don't need to hold that much weight or ones that don't telescope out from the wall or that don't tilt.

Evidently it is the 720p that won't work with Xbox. When we doing research for a larger sized big screen, they said one of the tests to see if 1080 would run on the tv was to hook up an xbox. Some of the newer tvs say they are 720, but will play from 1080 sources. Not all tvs will play from 1080 sources, however.

My problem with Woot-offs is the amount of items from Philips...and many of these are refurbs. Philips is obviously the industry standard for junk. I bought my first 5-disk changer about 15 years ago (Philips) and I knew then of the substandard quality. At that point, I vowed to never again buy any products made by Philips.

OK Wooter people, I bought an other 32 incher a few weeks back from you guys and FedX ground Lost It, you were very nice in getting my money back from PayPal within hours of my writing you. So once again I am in for 1 and hope I get this one.

For those looking for a cheap(~$23), quality tilt wall mount:
http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=108&cp_id=10828&cs_id=1082801&p_id=5084&seq=1&format=2

I've had great success with 3 wall mounts from Monoprice before (32", 37", and 52" TV's) and would recommend it to anyone who needs a simple tilt wall mount (I.E. no articulating arm)

I am Jack's smirking revenge.

I bought this at Sam's for $399

They sure go out of their way to NOT mention the resolution in a way most people understand. Is it 1080? 720? i? p?

VESA means "standard" wall mount (VESA is the acronym of the organization that sanctions such standards); VESA wall mounts are available anywhere from around $20 (at a deal-a-day site, for example) to around $100 (at Worst Buy, for example). Wal-mart has a nice articulating one (you can twist and turn it) for $30.

I'm supposed to buy something? But we're having so much fun with things as they are, I don't want to ruin it!
Purchases: 12 / 8 (nobody cares what, so I won't tell you);
Brownies of Cannabis: 0 / 6 (would it help if I called them something else?).

Dont Buy TV's from WOOT...the refurb are usually broken and manufacturer wont fix it, you will end up spending $100+ on shipping trying to fix it. Go to the Store...
Woot customer service very unhelpful.. I have a 45in. sitting on a table...not working.

Monoprice usually has a good selection of wall mounts for less than $50. I purchased one about a month ago (for a 52" TV) and only paid about $40. It was a tilt only (no swivel) so the more options you want, the more expensive the mount is.

Consumer Reports rates this tv 34...the lowest score they gave.

Good rule of thumb: if they say HD but don't specifically say 1080p, then it's not 1080p. In this case, it's 720p / 1080i.

Thats a really good price on a 32" LCD. Pixel plus just gets rid of the softness on SD programming.
